Good point and you can add completely ripped to the list. Have you seen him lately? He must have gotten sick of getting heckled or something:

<br>Some thoughts about Nirvana.

Based on what I've read via biographies and music mags Kurt would probably agree that they (he) were overrated. He seemed genuinely perplexed how Nirvana received so much fanfare while his favorite bands such as Sonic Youth and the Melvin's only had a cult following.
In my opinion, unlike Sonic Youth and the Melvins, Nirvana was basically underproduced classic rock--and that's not a critique. Sonic Youth's music was too self-indulgent and dissonant; the Melvins were too sludgy and atonal, the Pixies were too one-note. Nirvana, however, was catchy and fluid. Take "Smells Like Teen Spirit"--it's basically "More Than A Feeling" stripped down and given angry lyrics. That helped them catch on; that's why they succeeded where their predecessors failed.

Besides, Nirvana connected with disaffected, depressed teenagers in a way that Sonic Youth and the Pixies never could; I was a disaffected, depressed teenager at the time, so I know what I'm talking about.

One for The Monochrome Set.

Any band who can completely rip-off "Jerusalem" in "Jacob's Ladder" and then have the cheek to claim their own songwriting credits needs a good talking to.[:(!]

I have to say it... REM is great. Sure, some of their albums are better than others but they always leave some really good songs.
Their stuff in the 80s was really avant-garde and in the 90s, they produced some of the best pop songs ever.
Think:
Orange crush
It´s the end of the world as we know it ...
Losing my religion
Everybody hurts
What´s the frequency Kenneth?
Daysleeper

Many bands would kill just as to have 6 songs as good as that.

Following the list:
Lotus
Imitation of life
Radio free Europe
Leaving New York
Man on the moon

And only cause there´s SHP.... is that enough reason to bash REM?????

I'm a really huge fan of their I.R.S years. All my REM favorites are from that period.

I would hazard to guess that anyone who went to college in the 80's would agree.

Well... I became an REM fan in the 90's but I like better their 80s stuff.
And it´s one of the first bands I ever liked and I know they are a little bit overrated but they have got really good stuff.
Same for U2... overrated sometimes but great band and their show was the best one I ever attended.
I think from a listeners persective you always have too consider time and place. That's why you'll find so many REM and U2 fans that only dig the earlier stuff.

I LIKED Carrot Top when he was lanky and skinny. Now, he's just scary and I attribute his weird behaviour to steroids[xx(]
