I have to say that I also didn't like Sting's Sacred Love album... in my opinion is the poorest of them all.Having said that,I have tosay that NLTS and Mercury Falling are also my favourites. And I like TST and Brand New Day a lot too. [:D]

Okay, I'm SO calling out everyone who's saying Duran Duran should've stopped recording post-"Fab Five" era. Big Thing and Medazzaland both were true masterpieces and there are plenty of magical moments on Notorious and Pop Trash. There are even some real gems in Liberty! The Wedding Album unfortunately sounds dated, but hey, to 13-year-old me, it was like a dream come true actually getting to see my favorite band getting some attention because of that album.

I think 'Ordinary world' and some of the singles after the fab five era were good myself but I guess I got into the original DD in my childhood like 10 years old and that kinda gets inside your head...[8)]

DD are so underrated in many different ways in many different countries.

Personally, I think they are fantastic. Even in the "warren" days they did indeed have some great songs.

I thought they were staring in an obscure nightmarish black and white movie called Erasurehead

In my case, I am faithful to my old flames, bands or girls.... They might have aged, their sound and curves might have lost some of their beauty and seduction and yet I still love them...and I don't want them to stop, not now at least, who knows I might have a last chance to see them live...That's the reason why I will keep on buying the albums of some of those bands that have chosen to prolong their career... like DM, the Cure, EATB, New Order and a few others.... They have given me so much pleasure; I refuse to treat them as disposable items... and besides bands that are still performing are more likely to reissue their back catalogue.
On the other hand, there are bands which have not caught my fancy like Devo, ABC, XTC etc obviously they should have retired long ago....actually after their first album![:D]
In parenthesis, about XTC, I wonder what's the fuss about it, it's not even a new wave band and their only acceptable song from a new waver point of view is Dear God, which is even too commercial for my own taste.

Been pondering this a few days, i can't believe I don't have a life to do something else with (tongue in cheek)! [;)]

OK, my opinion is:

ABC - Lexicon of Love

Duran Duran - Rio

Adam and the Ants - Kings of the Wild Frontier

DEVO - Oh, No It's DEVO! (for us Spud Patrol-ers!)

OMD - Crush (although I love all their stuff: Sugar Tax, Universal, etc., even after Paul H. and Andy McK. split ways!)

Gang of Four - Solid Gold

Wall of Voodoo - Call of the West

Bananarama - Deep Skin-Diving

The Fun Boy Three - FB3

The Specials and the Selector got out of their own ways after two albums a-piece (given The Spec's EP of Ghost Town in there!)

REM - South Central Rain

B-52s - Mezzopatamia (spelling?)

The Clash - after the US Festival! (Right On!)

Depeche Mode - Get The Balance Right! 12" release or after Construction time Again! (sorry [:0]!)

Yazoo - too soon

Erasure - Well because of Yazoo break-up: Wonderland (HA!)

The Pixies - never should have!

Spandau Ballet - Diamonds

New Order - Blue Monday 12"

Madness - One Step Beyond...

Bow Wow Wow - when they did!

The Jam - never, ever... but then The Syle Council came... [^]

U2 - Rattle And Hum

HOW about a topic of bands that quit or broke up too early in their careers???? huh??? come on!!!! begging here...

Oh trust me, I got into the '80s Duran output first (Rio was my first '80s popular music album), but The Wedding Album was the first Duran album I purchased while it was new, and I grew up with the firm belief that the proper Duran lineup was the Simon-Nick-John-Warren one, so I suppose it's all in what you become accustomed to when you're fifteen or thereabouts. (I mention fifteen because that's how old I was when Thank You was released.) And it does strike me as being unfair when people who were there in the early '80s appear to want to deny that "OMG NEW ALBUM" pleasure to those of us fans who became fans in the '90s. And I really, really respect Duran Duran for not giving up past a certain date. I remain convinced their greatest effort ever was '97's Medazzaland, which totally MADE my entire senior year of HS better.

A-Ha--Scoundrel Days
B-52's--Cosmic Thing
Blondie--Autoamerican
Concrete Blonde--Bloodletting
Elvis Costello--Spike
The Cure--Disintegration
Eurythmics--Savage
Missing Persons--Spring Session M
REM--Monster
Tears For Fears--Songs from the Big Chair

There's two bands listed above I disagree or they bounced back. XTC (Nonsuch was flawed but the Apple Venus albums are pretty good, granted not in my tracklist as often as English Settlement and Skylarking) and Morrissey (his 90's stuff was forgettable, but I'm impressed with his two recent albums). U2 sort of bounced back.

I think I'm alone in the world when I say that I truly, really, without a doubt, find BLOODFLOWERS as one of the best Cure albums ever. Right next to PORNOGRAPHY even.

Danelf, I am SO with you re: Bloodflowers. I dare say that Bloodflowers is actually the best Cure album ever released. The late '90s were dire times for upcoming musical acts, but fantastic times for artists who released debut albums in the very early '80s. Medazzaland is the greatest Duran Duran album and that along with Bloodflowers totally save the last gaspy bits of the Decade I'd Rather Not Think About.

gary numan up to telekon was so great.
once the like funk hints were added i just didnt feel it.

duran duran same as above.
i think the first album is one of the best ever, rio i think is ok but very over rated. but after that there were a few singles and that about it for me.
and they also added that little minor funk kind of thing i hate.
missing persons did the same thing, whats with good new wave bands adding boring funk flavor?

men without hats, i love the first ep and 2 albums.
when pop goes the world came out i couldnt believe it was the same band.yet after a while a liked several tracks from the album, but after that ugh.

wall of voodoo, love everything they did while stanard was singing.
the half assed copy guy has never impressed me.

christian death, do they count as new wave?

do singers going solo count?

Looks like I'll be the dissenting voice on a few groups

First and foremost, Depeche Mode. Ultra and Exciter were a bit spotty in places but they were clearly a band trying to find a direction...which they found in Playing the Angel. A great album IMO with only 2 stinkers.

Duran Duran - Pretty much everything after Notorious was bland and uninspiring. However, Astronaut is a great, fun album in which they really sound invigorated.

Pet Shop Boys - Not a big fan of Bilingual and Release was a bit odd but I Love Fundamental. For the most part, a return to the type of music PSB does best.

Erasure - Nightbird showed me a glimmer of hope that they can still create some pretty good music when they go back to their roots. Not a big fan of Union Street but I did quite enjoy the live show they did in support of it.

Tears For Fears - While Everybody Loves a Happy Ending was not a fan favorite, I thought it was a pretty good "Pop" album with a more adult sound. I think that was the big problem alot of people had with it...they expected them to create another SFTBC or Hurting and that just wasn't going to happen.

New Order - Can't say that I've been disappointed in much that they've done over the past few years and Waiting for the Sirens Call had some great tracks (oddly enough I was listening to it in the car today).

Howard Jones - Lost me after the third album but I love Revolution of the Heart.

Morrissey - You are the Quarry was great and actually the first Morrissey album I bought in years. Not a big fan of Ringleader though.

The Cure - this is a difficult one because they're in my top 2 or 3 favorite groups of all time. I'm one of the few apparently that really enjoyed Bloodflowers but I can't say I was overly enthused with the latest album. Some great stuff on it but a bit indulgent and overstuffed if you ask me. I think there is still the potential for another great Cure album and I'm excited about what the new (old) line-up will create together.
