Nick Lowe vs Elvis Costello

Postby Quite Life » Wed Aug 09, 2006 5:18 am

This is a very back and forth with me. If you would ask this Question 2 years ago I would have gone with Elvis. But right now I'm going to have to go with the Jesus of Cool. Both have a very interesting post NW career. Who right now do you still sing along to? Is it "and so it goes and so it goes and so it goes and so it goes and where it's going nobody knows" or "she's filing her nails while there dragging the lake"?

Tough poll! Both are brilliant songwriters who turn a clever phrase. But I have to go with Elvis. It helps that I saw Costello in 1983 and consider it the best NW concert I've ever attended.

Lowe's stint in Rockpile is the deciding factor for me.

I voted Elvis although I only have his first three lp,s.I have every release of Nick Lowes up to his second mid 90,s country cd(I skipped the third).I believe Elvis Costello is a master at diversifying his sound and has released many acclaimed works the past three decades. As much as I like Nick Lowe he went from a great pop rocker to a country balladeer overnight. What has he done lately does anyone know? The last release I bought was about 1997.
