I believe that's a different band, coz they broke up before the 80's was over

There are two for me that come to mind:

The original extended version of "Venus" by Bananarama (not the Hellfire mix, which I believe was the second extended version of the song that was released to 12") on a CD called "80's Dance Party Volume 2".

and

"Treasure (or Whatever Happened to Pete the Chop)" by U2 (didn't know that any of the U2 singles had been released to CD; in this case, "New Year's Day").

and

the original 7" version of "(This is Not a) Love Song" by Public Image Ltd. (it showed up on the latest Johnny Lydon compilation).

okay, make it 3, then. [:)]

I'm curious--the version of (This Is Not A) Love Song on the Rock and Wave compilation--that isn't the original? (I always thought it was. It blew me away when I didn't get the usual intro that I hear).

The album version of the song and the 7" version were different. On most compilations, and on all the ones I heard it on, it was the album version you were getting. As far as I knew, the 7" version was only found on the CD single of the song, and I am unfortunately unfamiliar with the Rock and Wave compilation you mention, so I'm unable to help you out there.
