Songs you thought you used to like

Postby skinnytie » Tue Aug 29, 2006 1:54 pm

I recently picked up a CD copy of "Perverted by Language" by the Fall. I really liked the song "Kicker Conspiracy" back in the day, and since it was on there and the price was right, I picked it up. But when I got home and played it, I was wondering why I had liked it so much. Maybe I remembered it as something different, I dunno, but it didn't have the same magic for me as it did back when it was new.

The same for the song "Discophony" by the Sweet (I know, not new wave, so sue me). Used to love it when it had first come out, recently heard it again, and I was wondering why I had liked it so much back then. Did it not age well, or had my hearing changed?

Have any of you had the same experience? Loved a song when it first came out, hadn't heard it for years, and then when you did, you found you didn't really care for it anymore? I'd like to see what song titles you folks think fit this category for yourselves, if any.

"Pass the Dutchie" by Musical Youth has most certainly aged, as well as Bad Manners tunes in general. I'm absolutely shocked. I love Ska in the form of Specials, Selecter, etc. but Musical Youth and Bad Manners seem way overdone. I have to reach to skip the CD track when I hear the first "ooh" in "Samson and Delilah"

Maybe it was Family Ties that killed them for me, but I used to LOVE "I can Take Care of Myself" by Billy Vera and the Beaters which was certainly in the style of pub rock. Then Alex and Ellen ruined them for me, and I can't go back.

Samson and Delilah was never a strong track in my opinion - I don't know why Rhino didn't pick something like Inner London Violence for their Just Can't Get Enough
compilation.

I loved Eddy Grant's "I Don't Wanna Dance" when it first came out. I would turn up the radio loud when it came on. I never owned a copy of it until about five years ago and when I got it I wasn't very impressed.

I'm finding this to be true for anything by Public Image Limited.
