I'm not really a big fan, but he does have some good songs, mentioned above. He has a great voice too.

<br>George Michael and Wham made it big everywhere not only in the Philippines, they even had their farewell concert before 72,000 fans in Wembley Stadium. I watched a few times his video of careless whispers, the song was rather.... evocative, however I didn't pay attention to his solo career.

Well, apparently even KROQ got a boom-boom in the heart, too, as Wham! smash hits its way to No. 20 in their 1984 countdown:

It was even higher than the Smiths' immortal "How Soon Is Now?"

Even 91X couldn't resist, either:

I actually had a liking for George Michael's solo single "Hand to Mouth," which got played on NU-107 back in the day. However, after what he was caught doing in the bathroom, that song title took a particularly revolting unintentional interpretation...

i like some of George's stuff, especially "Praying for Time" from Listen Without Prejudice. Has a real John Lennon "Mind Games" vibe... that whole album is pretty good.

YUP MIKE "FAITH" was also included on the early playlist of NU107. Actually, they were the ones who made it popular. I remember hearing it on one of my early MEDICAL MISSIONS in the Barrios in the mid90s and the children were dancing on it.[;)]

I've always likes "Everything She Wants". I even saw Ben Folds and Rufus Wainwright cover "Careless Whisper" in concert together (as well as "In Between Days" by the Cure, which really confused the 21-under crowd).

Wham & George Michael havent produced any bad song at all, IMHO. All of their songs are great.

But i cant say much for Andrew Ridgeley solo album tho, cos i never heard of it, Son of Albert its called.

I never understood why Wham! was considered new wave. They're dreadful! I guess Sheena Easton was new wave too! And what about John Waite? Or Paul Young? Or Billy freakin' Ocean, for god's sake? I swear, any new artist that wasn't metal or funk, people called new wave. Ridiculous.[:(!]

I never liked Wham at all - but absolutely love the song "A Different Corner."

As much as I loved that song, I wouldn't have been caught dead buying a Wham single! Thank God I grew out of that....last year! [:D]

I didn't care for the first album (even the cover turned me off), but I have to admit the second one was pretty good. It's a great pop album, with a decent amount of good songs on there. At the time, I did like "Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go" partly because it didn't sound like the first album, and it had that motown beat. The third album lost me; always seemed like a contractual obligation to me. Even their Christmas tune sounded derivative to me. I lost interest after that, but there's no denying that George Michael does have a good voice.

Thanks. Glad there was at least one other Wham!-hating dissenter on this thread. Wham!, IMO were merely (awful, saccharine-sweet) pop music. Not that there isn't great pop music . . . just Wham! did nil for me. I truly hated them and thought they were dreadful, as well as all of their screaming teenaged girl fans (a la 'NSYNC).

This video of George working in the studio really won me over.

He's showing you how he came up with a great song called "Waiting For That Day." He took a classic hip-hop drum beat and he wanted something, as he said, "un-black" over it. Folk guitar! Then he adds in Procol Harum keyboards...sounds like it would be a mess, but George knew better. Great song, great construction video.
