Any info on Flowers? Yes, the band...

Postby Rubellan » Sun Sep 10, 2006 11:02 am

Does anyone have any info on the late 70's/early 80's band FLOWERS? I believe this is the band that caused ICEHOUSE to change their name from FLOWERS. To my knowledge, they released a couple of 7" singles and had some songs on various compilation LP's.

Confessions 7"
Ballad of Miss Demeanour 7"

Plus songs/versions on 'Earcom 1' and 'Mutant Pop' comp LP's.

Does anyone know anything about this band, or if there are other songs/singles/albums out there?

Thanks.

Confusingly, the first Flowers release was called "Icehouse". For their first overseas release, they took that album, shuffled the song order, remixed it, dropped a song and put out the "Icehouse" album but now the band was called Icehouse too. The import Icehouse CD "Masterfile" includes 5 Flowers tracks:

Can't Help Myself
We Can Get Together
Sister
Walls
Icehouse

I also have "Can't Help Myself" on the kickass Aussie double-disc compilation called "Cool World: 41 Essential Australian Rock Singles 1976-1986"

So here you have a band with an album, song and band name all named Icehouse (although not necessarily at the same time) Confused yet?!

This isn't the same band, which is why I made the Icehouse reference in my original post. Flowers were a female led band with a post-punk sound. Icehouse had to change their name from Flowers because this band existed first. I'm trying to find info on the original Flowers.

Yes, this is all they released. A Scottish band - I have an article from Zig Zag magazine about them. They suffered comparisons with the Banshees. I think they're great though! The singer was the girlfriend of Bob Last (Fast Records/Pop Aural).
