Where are the 80's club people now?

Postby club80 » Mon Oct 02, 2006 3:33 am

So where are the folks who used to spend their nights at the clubs throughout the 80's? Malibu, Paris, Thrush, Spize, 007, Reds and even Be-bop (downstairs from Escapes for a short time). Were you there? I saw an old post that mentioned Ford. Everyone remembers Ford and the clove cigarettes! I used to call him Ford Prefect after the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy character.
Were you at these clubs? What are your memories?

HOLY CRAP! Dude I must know you! Not only did I go to all of those places every week, but I knew Ford and those stink sticks! I went to a party of his once and he dated a girl that I hung out with.

I probably do know you. I spent a majority of my time at Malibu, Reds, Paris and Spize in the early 80's. Became a fixture at Thrush once it opened. Lots of time spent in front of Tony's bartending spot in the corner!

So if you remember Ford, you still hung out in the later 80's? I met him around 89 or 90. I didn't hang out with him, I usually hung with the goths. Funny because I was not goth. I hung out with everybody.

I hung out until around 1990 or so. My club time dwindled sharply after that. I miss those days though

Be-bop's! I haven't thought of that place in a long time. Yes, I would go there on Friday nights, 7 bucks to get in a ladies drank free all night. It was always packed. Spit on Wednesdays and sometimes Fridays. Malibu or Heartbeats on Saturdays.

I never went to Heartbeats but I went to Spit too. I always found it a bit too contrived. Maybe because it was only open on Wednesdays? Maybe because it was at the rear entrance of a dreaded disco? Maybe because the bouncers didn't look like they fit in?
Loved Malibu in the day though! Same videos every night but the music was great and the scene was good.

Refresh my memory-where was Thrush and Heartbeats? They sound familiar. Hung out at Spit, Malibu (saw China Crisis there) Paris (We're talking Paris, New York in Huntington Station?) and a few other clubs that I can't remember the names to (it was the early eighties, too much partying so it's kind of a blur at this point!) My friend and I used to frequent Good Times in Commack to see this band called Tara that covered early new wave, anyone remember that place?

I couldn't tell you where Heartbeat's was but Thrush was in Rockville Centre on the south side of Sunrise Highway right near Lenny's clam bar (a short stumble from Lenny's Clam Bar).
I remember Good Times. They were primarily a live rock club. Stage Door opened up near there later. A friend of mine was into that scene and I occasionally went there
Paris was in Huntington like you said. One really good thing about that place was that you could give the DJs (often the Bondage babies) a list of a few songs to play and they would actually play them!

Heartbeats was in Oyster Bay. I saw quite a few shows there including The Ramones and APB. It is now a parking lot.[:(]

I do remember Good Times in Commack. But that was a bit of a ride for a night out. I also saw China Crisis at Malibu. I remember it was a weeknight and I was dragging butt at work the next day big time.

Ah...Heartbeat's was probably the old Rumrunners. There were some great concerts at the clubs. I remember the Ramones, Vapors, Classix Nouveau, Lene Lovich, Billy Idol, Duran Duran at Malibu. I remember Ministry at Spize

I did go to Rumrunners occasionally but never Thrush, too much of a hike for me. Marie3, I still have the China Crisis concert on a cassette (WLIR broadcast) that sounds pretty good, I wish I had the technology and knowledge to convert and share.

Reds had some decent shows too. I remember seeing Gang of Four and Romeo Void there
