TFF - Mothers Talk

Postby zill » Sun Oct 15, 2006 9:04 am

I am just embarking on the ripping of old cassettes and the first one I popped into my deck today is warbled beyond repair. What a shame. It was a Tears for Fears cassette of Mothers Talk (Vertigo TFF4 1) that I think was only released here in Canada:

This Side - Mothers Talk (Short Version) / The Way You Are
That Side - The Beat of the Drum / The Marauders / Mothers Talk (Long Version)

I am confused now about the "long version" and "short version" - are these both available on CD somewhere? I can't recall if one of them is the album version. I do recall that when the album finally came out I was disappointed with the album version, which makes me think these versions were different.

If anyone knows anything about this cassette I would appreciate hearing from you.

You might want to check out the Deluxe Edition of the 2-disc set of "Songs From the Big Chair". I can't tell if there's a long version of "Mother's Talk" on it, but it seems to be pretty complete with the rest of your cassette, and seems to have enough versions of that song on it. You can view the track listings at Amazon.com here:

This was always one of my favorite EPs. The Way You Are and The Merauders were great songs. They were actually the single released between The Hurting and Songs From The Big Chair.

Not to be too much of an anorak but I'm sitting here holding the bloody tape in my hand and it is a cassette TFF4 1, and it includes The Marauders.

Thanks for the info.

I have the DELUXE expanded cd of "Songs From The Big Chair", and I'm very much interested if it's the same versions on your tape zill.[8D]

LOL. The funny thing is that the dude has a JPG of the cassette cover, and it is what you described.

Well, if it is the recent two disc version, I already posted the info, so what's to wonder? If not, just compare the timings.

Hm, I think "Mothers Talk (U.S. Remix)" is much better than reg'lar old "Mothers Talk," but I haven't heard any of the other versions mentioned here, though...
