Interesting thread but I'm not familiar with any of the names and/or mentions so far here. I was a regular (almost weekly, for years) Spize person. The Spize crowd was pretty tight and several weddings came out of that place. (Who remembers Ray?) I also did go several times to 007, Spit, Malibu, Paris and Thrush. I usually fit in some of those old dancefloor standards into my sets when I spin (Go!, Dominatrix, Red Flag, Camouflage, etc etc).

Anyway my name is Lisa and I always was out with my gay friend Ralph at the time and we called each other "honeybear" [8D][:D]

I turned 18 in 1986 and clearly remember that the drinking age turned 21 in 1986. I remember it because it was very frustrating to move from New Jersey (where the drinking age was always 21) to Long Island summer of '86, exactly when the drinking age had changed to 21 in New York State. I had bad timing. All the frat/sorority houses off campus disappeared at Adelphi University that year for that reason.

Did anyone go to the halloween parties at any clubs?
They were always great.
I remember being at SPIT and Malibu a few times for Halloween.
The costumes were the best.

I had pretty much stopped going to Spize by 1985 and was a regular at Thrush shortly after its beginning. I guess Jeff the bartender at Spize was moving from Spize to Thrush around that time and even Brian (who on more than one occasion looked like he was wearing a bathrobe) had moved on to Thrush around the same time. I went to a few club Halloween parties (Reds, Thrush, Malibu) but I never thought they were great except when someone I knew (and I can't remember who) dressed as Tawana Brawley. Glittering Prize...do you remember who that was? Was it Scott?

Yeah Philly....that was a funny and inventive costume. It was at Thrush. I don't think they had an actual contest where they gave stuff away (unless it was a tee shirt) but we were encouraged to dress for Halloween.

Oh no, the halloween parties I went to had cash prizes and they were really great. It was 1983 to 1984 I think.
Anyway, how does someone dress up like Tawana? Did they have a garbage can attached to them? [:p]

That's exactly what they wore, Marie3....a garbage bag. And they had dead leaves attached to their hair. It was very funny!

No I didnt even set foot in Spize until at least '87 and became a regular in '88. I went until around '91 alot. Before summer of '86, as I stated above, I was living in New Jersey.

hope you could read that last post, lol

I have met several people over the last few years around clubs in NYC and at some shows from back in the 'LIR days/clubs. Interesting how some people stick around in the scene. I did run into a few people too when DJ Cody's night started at Molly Bloom's a couple of years ago, and it was embarrassing because some people I really could not recognize for the life of me [:0] you know, bald, etc [:I]

and even stranger yet, seeing Malibu Sue in 2004 for the first time since 1990 or 1991 - she remembered my name. I used to be a phone person for WDRE.

I guess I disappeared for about a decade when the 90s hit and music turned crap. It still is crap of course, but at least the scene is back.

Club80- the old Paris building is still standing, (it was called Thunders in its later years) now there's a "For Lease" sign on it.

Thanks oldmotherhub. At least it isn't a carpet store.....yet! Welcome aboard aadam12!
Aadam12...take a look at the 10/17 discussion on this thread about Halloween at the clubs. Remember the Tawana Brawley costome? Who wore that? Was it Scott T?
