Atmospheric New Wave Songs

Postby TheMunDial » Tue Oct 31, 2006 2:08 am

I was wondering, what are some good atmospheric songs? You know, the ones that have an ambiance that teleports you right into the blinding mist?

Here are some examples of what I mean:

Fruer - "Doot Doot"
Ultravox - "Vienna"

What are your atmospheric song suggestions?

How can I forget about "Locust" by a-ha? You can almost feel the sand of the desert around you as the locusts swarm the grieving skies.

More atmospheric songs from a-ha off the top of my head:

"Living A Boy's Adventure Tale": You're lost in a forest.

"Stay On These Roads": You're on a mountaintop, rushed by the cold.

In "Crying In The Rain" and "Rolling Thunder," you can clearly imagine the downpour before your eyes, but I attribute that to the rhythmic rain sound effects.

Annex, the b-side to Enola Gay, is very "atmospheric." Other OMD tunes are as well, but I'm too tired to think of them now...

Many of you have listed many great '80s tunees so far in this thread that are "atmospheric."

A great b-side, and great Roxy album: "Flesh + Blood." A must have if you like Roxy Music!
