"Man Next Door" by the Slits...and Massive Attack?

Postby Frau_Blucher » Fri Dec 01, 2006 5:31 am

What a trip. How have I never noticed before that the Massive Attack song was a cover of the Slits? It's cool that the former recognized the latter's cool percusion and thickened and tripped it out pretty well.

Anyone else felt a little sheepish with recently "discovered" cover?

I'm browsing on I-tunes a few months back and somehow stumble upon the song "Slow Death". I'm excited since I don't have The Dictators,Blood Brothers on cd,well to my surprise I discover "slow death" is actually a Flamin Groovies song.Never knew, I bought both versions

I had always thought that the song "Out In The Streets" was a Blondie original, having first heard it on a pirated EP of demo outtakes back in the day. I had honestly thought that when Pearl Harbour recorded it for "Pearls Galore", she was doing a Blondie cover! Turns out it was originally done by the Shangri-Las. Did I ever feel stupid!

I may have had that same bootleg of Blondie demos!

I didn't know that Joan Jett's Roadrunner was a cover. That may not sound all that remarkable, but when it came out I was living in Boston & which is full of Jonathan Richmond devotees & he was getting a lot of play after her cover. I thought it was some crappy basement demo cover of Joan...

I also had no clue that Grace Jones Warm Leatherette was a cover. It's probably blasphemy, but I think she did a better job.

Actually the Slits themselves were doing a cover when they recorded "Man Next Door"

Thanks for that great info. I had a sneaking suspicion that that in turn would be the case.
