JustjOhn has a good point...the bigger your music collection, the harder it is to really get into just one album for any period of time. Maybe it was good to be a poor student and only be able to afford a couple albums at a time! Anyway, these were my most listened to...:

The Who - The Kids Are Alright Soundtrack
The Clash - London Calling
Pretenders and Pretenders II
U2 - October
Big Country - The Crossing
REM - Murmer

First album to be played incessantly over and over:

Abba's Greatest Hits (on 8-track tape yet!)

First new-wave album to be played incessantly over and over:

Parallel Lines by Blondie (this record was the only one that was on my turntable for 2 weeks straight, and, like WolverineSyr, once it was played, I would keep flipping it over and play it again and again). This 2 week streak would later be broken by "Sandinista" by the Clash, which was the only album on my turntable straight for 3 weeks; but in all fairness, it was a 3-disc set.

There were a couple of k-tel records that definitely won the war of the turntable at our house. But I think it was the Fixx's Shuttered Room album that was the first I couldn't get enough of...followed closely by Rio. I remember the day I first put on Rio, it was early afternoon and I stayed in my room and played it until dinner was ready that evening.

First 8-track I tortured my family with in drives in the car was The Walter Murphy Band. I must have been 8 or 9 and thought "A Fifth of Beethoven" and "You've Got to Be Your Own Best Friend" were the greatest songs ever.

Once I had my own turntable towards the end of elementary school, the first albums were(in no particular order):

- Van Halen 1
- Donna Summer "Hot Stuff" single and a bunch of other 45s of songs that were played on AM radio (mainly disco and singer/songwriter)
- Elton John Greatest Hits
- Grease Soundtrack
- Cheap Trick at Boudokan

The first new wave album I picked up was The Cars. I played the hell out of that.

Tomita - The Planets

Mike Oldfield - Hergest Ridge

Rick Wakeman - Myths and Legends of King Arthur & the Round Table

Well, you said it didn't have to be New Wave and these are the albums that were always on my turntable in the 1970's.

I listened to these over and over and over. In chronological order (more or less)...

Elton John - Goodbye Yellow Brick Road (I was 11.)
Jesus Christ Superstar (!) (Hey, it was really popular when I was about 12.)
Cheap Trick - In Color (age 16)
Little Feat - Waiting For Columbus (I actually bought three copies of this because I kept wearing it out. Don't ask me why. It was a phase, I guess...)
Rickie Lee Jones - Rickie Lee Jones
Bryan Ferry - In Your Mind
Jim Carroll Band - Catholic Boy
Rockpile - Seconds of Pleasure
B-52s - Party Mix
The Bangles - All Over the Place
Tears for Fears - Songs From the Big Chair
The Smiths - Hatful of Hollow
Jimmy Cliff - The Harder They Come
Romeo Void - Benefactor
The Raybeats - Guitar Beat (I still listen to this regularly.)
The Replacements - Let It Be
X - Ain't Love Grand (Not their best effort, but I wore it out nonetheless.)
Roxy Music - Avalon
The Sugarcubes - Life's Too Good
Sinead O'Connor - The Lion and the Cobra
Edie Brickell and New Bohemians - Shooting Rubberbands at the Stars (so sue me [:o)])
The Smithereens - Especially For You
