Errors on LPs, Cassettes, CDs, etc.

Postby NuWaveRx » Fri Jan 05, 2007 10:34 am

Was looking through a CD copy of "The Best of A Flock of Seagulls" CD I got a couple of years ago and I noticed the listing of the last track is "The Story of A Young Heart" when it is, in fact, the remix of "The More You Live, The More You Love"

Anyone else have examples of errors on the covers/jackets of LPs, Cassettes/CDs? Wrong track? Artist name spelled/listed wrong, etc.?

When i bought my cassette of X-mal Deutschland' Viva, the label on Side A was on Side B. They somehow interchanged it thats why when i'll listen to Side A, the cassette should be in Side B. [:D]

Everything But The Girl's "Eden" CD has 3 tracks that are out of order compared to the track listing on the disc and sleeve.

New Order's Factus 8 EP, 1981-1982, is labeled with "Mesh" as the 5th track. It's actually "Cries & Whispers", which the "Everything's Gone Green" 12" that has both Mesh and Cries as tracks 2 and 3 clearly confirms. It's pretty weird, and I see many mp3s mislabled still.

I remember buying the LP for Culture Club's "Waking Up With The House On Fire". After listening to it, I realized that it sucked and they should never have put it out.

The error was Culture Club's, I think.

My 12" copy of Wonderlust by Fallout Club has the A & B side labels reversed and my copy of OMD's S/T lp has B side labels on both sides.

Lastly, my copy of Blair Petrie's S/T ep has no mention of the last song on the B side on the outer jacket; but that may be due to the fact the song title is "Penis Probe In Wax".

I was always amused by the mistake on the vinyl of "Get Happy!!!" by Elvis Costello & the Attractions, where the first side and second side of the record are listed one way on the album cover, and then reversed on the record label. It turned out that this mistake was actually intentional; it was Elvis Costello's homage to album printing errors of the past, when I guess this kinda thing happened more frequently.

I take it "hidden tracks" don't count...

i.e. "Train in Vain" by the Clash.

I used to always get those mixed up. I got to the point where I really didnt have to know the song names, and it didn't matter if anybody else knew that I didn't know, because I don't know anybody other than the people on here that even know those songs anyway.[8]

Blue Monday - New Order
My copy of this infamous 12" has the labels reversed. In the very beginning, I didn't know it. The Beach is just a dub mix of Blue Monday anyway, and I like listening to it just as much.
Does that make my copy worth something?

First CA "pressing" of the Cure's Standing on a Beach cassette was titled: Standing on the Beach.

Images in Vogue, self-titled EP: original pressings had the tracklist in the wrong order on the back cover.

US licenced Mute releases (such as Nitzer Ebb's Control, I'm Here 12") regularly messed up the mix names. They also messed up the cover for Nitzer Ebb's Lightning Man when Geffen decided to re-orient the cover (UK release had the opening at the top of the sleeve) and ended up making the lightning bolts fly sideways.

probably lots of others I can't think of

<font size=1>If you think your signature is cool, then most likely, it is actually annoying.[/i]

Peter Murphy's 12" single "Blue Heart" has the B-side tracks reversed on the disc label: Blue Heart is listed as track 2 but in fact Canvas Beauty is track 2. The jacket has the track order listed correctly.

Thompson Twins - Into the Gap

Is it "No Rest for the Wicked" or is it "No Peace for the Wicked"? My vinyl has one listed on the jacket and the other listed on the label.

I have a CD of Secrets of the Beehive by David Sylvian.

Sort of.

The oobklet is for Secrets of the Beehive by David Sylvian.

The tray liner is for Secrets of the Beehive by David Sylvian.

The printing on the actual CD says Secrets of the Beehive by David Sylvian.

But when you play the CD, the music is.....

Monty Python's Greatest Hits.

Brilliant error at the pressing plant!
