Not New Wave, for sure, but I'm just curious.

This reminds me of a real life dilemna I once had.

It was summer of 84 (maybe 85?) and I hadn't escaped my small town yet. I won a prize at our work beach party - a choice of cassettes between Springsteen and Prince (the one with Raspberry Beret)! You can imagine my horror, along with the pressure of my peers watching - all of whom were into 80's metal by that time.

I chose the Boss simply because when I was stationed in KY me and a friend drove to Indiana to see the house where he was born (there wasn't much to do there) and it was a big waste of time. To top it off we almost got into a fight with some people who overheard us talking shit about the house. [:(]

Both had great songs but I think Bruce's body of work is tough to match. He loses me after "Born in the USA" (and I've tried with all the solo stuff and the Rising and even the Pete Seeger deal) but up until then he was amazing to me. "Nebraska" is a personal favorite to this day, as are the solo piano versions of 'Thunder Road' you hear at the concerts.
