I've been on ePay 10 years this July, been a part of somewhere between 7,000 and 10,000 transactions and have pretty much seen it at all. Between shilling and poor packaging and record jackets that arrive ruined because of poor packaging and records that arrive broken because of really poor packaging and "mint" records that look like they were used as a frisbee and greedy people who start the bidding at 10x what the going rate for something is and sellers who "forget" to send part of a large order (thinking you won't notice) and Nigerian electronics scams and spoof eBay/PayPal emails and general psychopaths who are way too messed up upstairs to ever get a real job, handling gouging is the least of my concerns, admittedly. Although ePay did recently institute a so-called policy that was supposed to deal with the gouging problem, they only bat an eye if it's a really egregious and obvious case of fee avoidance -- i.e., a 1 cent BIN on a computer with a $499.99 S&H fee. Fee avoidance was, of course, the only reason they're pretending like they care about the "community."
And, yes, since I sell on there from time to time, as well, I know what it costs (blah blah blah) to package something, and I don't expect to pay the same amount for shipping that the seller paid the post office or UPS. I don't even expect the seller to eat the listing and PayPal fees. But, in my experience, some of the worst gougers are the ones who send your item in a dilapidated pizza box, a manila envelope, a cut-up brown paper bag or whatever, and you find out the $5 handling you paid was so you could get a record with a creased to hell jacket or a CD with a smashed jewel case.
Luckily, I'm perfectly capable of weeding out most of the bottomfeeder sellers by reading the auction terms. You just got to learn how to decipher these things. Let's see here.
TERMS AND FEES:
Buyer Agrees: To Pay All Of The Following Charges Related To This Item. $7.00 (United Parcel Service And Shipping Materials In The United States Only, Insurance Is A MustI! insurance Is $1.60, Well Not Sell Without Insurance.
Not only is it a must, it only costs $1.35 for an $18.99 item via the USPS. It's free via UPS. Please don't tell eBay about this, so they don't shut down my auctions, seeing as charging more for insurance than it costs me is against their policy.
Not Responsible For Lost or Damaged Shipments In The Mail.
Unless you're not smart enough to file a PayPal claim, anyway. Good thing I don't accept PayPal. Especially good thing I don't demand payment from PayPal and refuse to accept any other form of payment where I actually wouldn't be responsible for lost or damaged shipments in the mail.
WE ONLY SHIP TO THE 48 UNITED STATES AND THE UNITED KINGDOM!
This means:
NO PO BOXES
NO AUSTRALIA
NO EUROPE - UNITED KINGDOM IS OK
NO HAWAII OR ALASKA
NO SOUTH AMERICA
NO THAILAND, SINGAPORE, MALAYSIA
NO JAPAN
NO NOWHERE OUTSIDE THE 48 STATES
NO CANADA
NO ANTI-XENOPHOBES! P.S. The only reason I sell to the United Kingdom and not any of those other dirty, smelly foreign countries is because my mommy lives there.
We Charge Sales Tax in multiple states, Los Angeles County add 8.25% To The Total Amount Of (All Charges) I Pay Sales Tax On Every Item I Sell On eBay.
As you may have noticed, I am hot shit because I pretend to have a presence in 34 out of 48 states. (I actually have a presence in 36 out of 50 states, but unfortunately, we can't include Alaska and Hawaii, because they are included in the list of said dirty, smelly foreign countries that I refuse to ship to.)
( SORRY WE DO NOT COMBINE SHIPPING CHARGES FOR MULTIPLE AUCTION WINNING'S
Because we don't want you to buy more than one thing from us or give repeat business.
NO LOCAL MERCHANDISE PICK UP'S WILL BE PERMITTED, PLEASE DO NOT ASK )..
Of course not, silly. How else could I gouge?
I will post proper feedback after you have received your item(s) and have posted your feedback
So I can retaliate if you neg me.
I WILL NOT ACCEPT BIDS FROM BUYERS WITH EXCESSIVE NEGATIVE FEEDBACK (I HAVE THE RIGHT TOO CANCEL YOUR BID(S) IF THIS IS YOUR STATUS, E-MAIL ME WITH ANY QUESTIONS BEFORE YOU PLACE YOUR BID.) ..
Speaking of excessive negative feedback, please ignore the fact that I have 7 negs. Like the one that says, "Liar! Misrepresented item auctioned. NASTIEST dealer I've ever dealth with!!!!" Or the one that says, "Seller is a liar! Stated item weights 20lbs actual weight 6.5lbs pads shiping!" And especially ignore the ones that say, "Paid20.shipping,item broken, actual shipping7.62,sent back, says they never got it," "For what I payed, expected much more. Box was all tore up and lamp look very used" and "very rude. nasty attitude. would not recomend to others." Yeah, ignore all those, thanks.
SORRY I HAVE A LOT FRIENDS WHO GET BURNED FROM DISHONEST OR CONFUSED BIDDERS, I DO NOT WISH TOO BE ONE OF THEM..
No, sir. I wish too be the one doing the burning. Duh!
NEW USERS WITH ZERO FEEDBACK PLEASE CONTACT WITH ANY QUESTIONS YOU MAY HAVE BEFORE YOU PLACE YOUR BID, THANK YOU
Because, as you all know, I started on eBay with a feedback rating of 1.
Payment Must Be Received Within (5) days of the closing of the auction date.
Also disregard the fact that PayPal gives you 7 days to pay. Pay me within 5. Or else. Speaking of the "or else"...
If payment is not received by that time eBay will be notified and Negative feedback will be posted on the 7th day ON ALL DEAD BEAT BIDDERS, No Exceptions.
Don't expect to receive your item within 7 days from the date you paid me. If negative feedback is left after 7 days from time of payment, negative feedback will be returned on ALL PAYING BIDDERS. NO EXCEPTIONS.
Please Read Item(s) Description For All Shipping Fee(s). Buyer Please Do not use eBay(s) buyer Check Out, Seller will invoice all charges to the winning bidder of this auction, via email.
This is so I can add additional hidden fees to the auction without eBay knowing about and/or collecting on them.
No Return Policy, All Sells Final.
Because I sell crap bootlegs, misrepresent the condition of them, and package poorly so they're guaranteed to arrive to you damaged. All "Sells" Final. Hopefully, you, the unlucky buyer, are too stupid to realize that my "No Return Policy" goes right out the window because of my stubborn decision to only accept PayPal. Which, thankfully, has a very generous return policy on misrepresented crap bootlegs.
For More Information Please Read Item Description, Or Email Me.
So I can ignore it.
.. IF YOU DO NOT LIKE MY TERMS PLEASE DO NOT BID
And why would you?
But DevoManiac is right. I'm sure gibson80sboy will pay $10,000 for this thing 5 years from now.
