Another iPod Game: 25 Most Played List

Postby drsevrin » Tue Sep 26, 2006 4:36 pm

With credit to Spaz and Blir for inspiration, fire up the iPod/iTunes or equivalent and tell us what your 25 most played tracks are. In iTunes, go to your playlists and there it is. . . I apologize if this has been done before - just direct me to the earlier thread if it has.

For me, it's always been revealing to periodically check in on my 25 most played list - I'm surprised at what I find - not only what's there but also what is not. these tracks don't represent the best musically or even my favorite bands necessarily, and certainly not the most obscure, but instead have a strong nostalgia factor - reminding me of a particular time, event, and place. Or instead, they have simple staying power - tracks so powerful to me that I simply don't tire of them.

My list is biased by at least three factors: much of my vinyl is not yet ripped, and some tracks show up simply because they come after a favorite. Some also get overplayed in the car, on cd, so don't get as much iPod play.

Realizing they might not all be new wave, here are mine, in order of most played . . . it was news to me, but I guess I really like China Crisis.

Well nice birthday present... what color is your iPod? My 25, at first was all OMD... go figure... I'm surprised with the amount of DM, JD, and NO I play their songs are not in my Top 25! Oh, well, I'm sure that'll change soon enough! Happy tuning!!!! [:p]

I decided about a month ago to reset all my play counts to zero, because I listen to shuffle mode a lot more than I used to. I like using the Top 25 for current songs to tally up at the end of the year. So, my Top 25 has changed quite a bit; only 3 old songs in there now, and the highest ranked one is by my favorite band! I'll be interested to see what this looks like at the end of the year.

As of 4/1/06:

1. Keane - "Nothing In My Way"
2. Amy Winehouse - "You Know I'm No Good"
3. The Killers - "Read My Mind"
4. Scissor Sisters - "She's My Man"
5. Simple Minds - "Promised You A Miracle"
6. Aqualung - "Pressure Suit"
7. Arcade Fire - "Keep The Car Running"
8. Beck - "Think I'm In Love"
9. Bloc Party - "I Still Remember"
10. Coldplay - "Talk"
11. Damien Rice - "Rootless Tree"
12. The Decemberists - "O Valencia!"
13. Depeche Mode - "Martyr"
14. Keane - "She Sells Sanctuary"
15. LCD Soundsystem - "Watch The Tapes"
16. Muse - "Starlight"
17. OK Go - "Do What You Want"
18. Peter Bjorn And John - "Young Folks"
19. Regina Spektor - "Fidelity"
20. The Shins - "Phantom Limb"
21. Snow Patrol - "Open Your Eyes"
22. U2 - "Window In The Skies"
23. Altered Images - "Don't Talk To Me About Love"
24. Big Country - "Wonderland"
