Games of the 80's

Postby austinhosp06 » Tue Apr 10, 2007 1:01 am

How many games can you remember from the 1980's. Here are some I remember:
Test Match Cricket Game (Board Game)
Squatter (Board Game)
Monopoly (Board Game)
Mouse Trap
Meccano
Tip-It
Hands Down
Trouble
Yatzee
Ker-Plunk
DAS
Conkers
TV Board Games: eg: Hart To Hart; Bionic Woman; Six Million Dollar Man; The A Team etc

Any others you can think of? I'd love to hear.

I didn't play a lot of board games at this time. However, I did play Trivial Pursuit and, I believe, this first came out in the '80's.

I know that Kerplunk and Trouble pre-date the '80's by some time. I played both as a young child (and that pre-dates the 80's)

I think Bionic Woman & Six Million Dollar Man also pre-dated the 80's by a few years.

Only games I ever played were on this though. [8D]

Operation.

It used to scare the hell out of me when I'd operate with a sloppy hand and get buzzed at. My kids have this game, and it still scares me to death [:I]

I was totally into Frogger! (Maybe that came out in the 70's though.) I was pretty kick ass at Pac Man too.

You don't remember Husker Du? "Husker Du, Do You Remember?- The great new game that's sweeping Norway has now come to America!"

The band took their name from the game. That crappy commercial was an 80's staple and a precusor to all those Mentos commecials.

I think I once played the game with Rula Lenska. [:)]

We always played Yahtzee's bastard cousin "Kismet" exactly the same yet incredibly different. I remember the Star Wars Board game and don't break the ice and would set up that game Mousetrap not to play just to set off the trap. [:D]

The only games of the 80s that mattered to me:

PacMan and Ms PacMan
Tempest
Donkey Kong
Pitfall
Most of the Infocom games, especially Zork, Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, and Planetfall

Those early Zork games were great. I'm pretty amazed at how I was able to solve all those fiendish text-only puzzles, especially when I was so young. Seems I can't play any game nowadays without having to look at an FAQ or walkthrough. Sad.

Does anyone recall the video arcade game Bezerker, you had to navigate a maze and destroy the robots. It would begin with the game saying "Intruder alert, intruder alert, destroy the intruder". It was the first game with an attitude, at the end of every round it would total the number of robots you killed and say "lucky" for everyone one counted. Don't recall if this was a late seventies or early eighties game.

The game was actually called Berzerk. The very first video game known to have killed a player in real life!
