Betty or Veronica

Postby ghosty » Fri Sep 10, 2004 8:34 am

What a lucky dope that Archie is! For 50 years he's been dating both Betty and Veronica (and sometimes on the same night! Yikes! Thank goodness Jughead has a plan!) and he's even such a scumbag he put them both in his band! Will Archie ever choose? Betty the girl-next-door or Veronica the rich-bitch?

Of course they both have the same face and figure only with different hair color. Damn you Archie! You're so shallow!

...but your band rocks though!

Archie must be gay, or he would have done Betty and Veronica long ago. They both would kill for him, and he was pretty dorky, but he must have walked quietly and carried a "big stick"

That's true and both Betty and Veronica parade around him in the skimpiest of bikinis throughout the summer months.
Hmm, Archie is unusually close to Jughead and, as we all know, Juggie hates women.

Always thought Mr.Weatherbee and Miss Grundy had a thing.

Archie Comics have been published in the United States since the mid-40's. The characters were made to reflect teenage fads and trends in music, fashion and lifestyle. This has been why the Archie titles (and their myriad spinoffs) continue to be successful to this very day. During the 80's Archie and the gang participated in numerous New Wave-themed stories and adventures including a tale wherein Betty And Veronica convince Archie to dress like Boy George (Boy Gary in the comic to avoid litigation) and The Archies, as a musical act, incorporated New Wave fashion into their wardrobe.

So you see, Archie and the gang are very much New Wavers making this thread relevant to the message board.......sideswhich it's fun.

It's called humor. And all of us on this board get along fine with it. And I think we should have alot of these threads. If it does not please you, there is the door!

Well, Veronica did play keyboards in The Archies band (Betty as you recall played a mean tambourine) so I would imagine that during the early 80's what with syth-pop in full bloom, Veronica played a larger role in the band's overall sound.

...of course this depends on whether The Archies were primarily a cover band after 1969. Surely the audience at Pop Tate's Malt Shop would've thrown tables had they been subjected to "Sugar Sugar" every Friday night for 15 years.

So I guess that's one vote for Veronica.

I should also mention in deference to those who look back fondly on 80's televison that actor Glen Scarpelli (who was a teen heartthrob for about 10 minutes in the early-80's due to his role on..One Day At A Time? I think?) was rendered in cartoon form in the Archie series and shared many an adventure with the Riverdale gang.

Why? Because his Dad, Henry Scarpelli, was and still is an artist for Archie Comics.

You'd think Glen, with his T.V. connections, could've landed the band a better gig than the Malt Shop.

...and to anyone else out there who questions the relevance this thread has to New Wave, may I point out that Betty and Veronica namechecked Duran Duran several times yet never once mentioned Spandau Ballet thus ending that old argument.

Glen Scarpelli actually had an album! I almost bought it as a gag gift for someone. I regret not buying it to this day.

I have solid evidence that Archie Andrews is 100% straight, and tapping both Betty AND Veronica.
