Cars vs Duran Duran

The Cars were around longer than duran duran but switched to more of a dance-rock sound similiar to duran around 82-83. Both bands have a wide list of songs i like. I also like some of Ric's solo work and Benjamin Orr's lovely stay the night. I wish people would stop labelling Duran as a boy band in the same vein as new kids and n-sync. They had a huge influence on music in the 80's as well as modern music. They're always being compared to wham. But they're music was far more edgy than wham. reflex, union of snake, is there something i should know?, rio, hungry like the wolf, save a prayer, view to a kill. All awesome songs. And the Cars had lots of cool later songs like tonight she comes, magic, i'm not the one, and strap me in.

LOVE The Cars but only 'kinda like' Duran Duran....

"Candy O" is a nearly flawless album and even their final album, Door To Door, is an undiscovered gem.

It was difficult for me to take them seriously back in the day. They seemed to be omnipresent in my sister's [i]Tiger Beat[/i] magazines. Every girl was yammering on about which was the dreamiest. I give them a lot more credit now, but it was difficult for me to budge at first.

The Cars are my favorite New Wave band. The first 3 albums, anyway. I never bothered to buy [i]Shake It Up[/i] and beyond on CD.
