Eyeless in Gaza remasters - Finally!

Eyeless in Gaza remasters - Finally!

Postby Rubellan » Thu Dec 06, 2007 12:32 am

I've just been asked to remaster 4 of the early Eyeless in Gaza albums. This will not be a full scale repackaging, more so than re-released with my new masters. This will give me the long awaited chance to correct some of the glaring errors and problems with the previous masters. These are scheduled for February.

After an exhaustive Decemeber of working on this project, all of the remasters have been completed. Martyn and Pete have listened to, and enthusiastically approved of all of the Eyeless remasters. In fact, here's Martyn's comments on the CD most in need of remastering, "Drumming the beating heart/Pale hands I loved so well":

"Finally ! - we have both listened thru, many many times (VERY closely!!!!!!) to all the masters. You are right - Drumming /Pale Hands is the remastering job where the change is most significant, by a mile. I am personally really pleased with this one -its like having an old friend back, or hearing it for the first time since we originally mixed and mastered the thing. Excellent job!"

That was rewarding to receive. On another note, I was also asked to remaster the Martyn Bates solo 2 on 1 CD containing "Letters Written/The Return of the quiet". Martyn rejected my remaster of "Letters Written", as he felt that my enhancements interfered with the smaller, more intimate sound. I completely respect his decision, and the previous master for those 10 songs will be used on the release. However, he was very happy with my remastering of "The return of the quiet", so those 9 tracks will be on the CD.

In addition, Cherry Red will be releasing a magazine with a large section about the remasters. Martyn has written individual comments of what each album means to him, and I wrote a couple of pages on how I discovered Eyeless, and the remastering process that I did for the albums.
