HUGE Book of Love reissue news!!!!

HUGE Book of Love reissue news!!!!

Postby budaniel » Mon Mar 30, 2009 10:00 am

ALL four of Book of Love's CDs have been reissued with bonus tracks as exclusives for Collector's Choice Music (ccmusic.com). Candy Carol and Love Bubble have as bonus tracks only remixes that were on the CD singles from that era--so if you have all those CD singles, you have all the bonus tracks already.

As for Book of Love, their first CD, it's TWO discs, but oddly, instead of all the bonus club mixes from the original pressing being included, it has some alternate remixes, demos...AND...brace yourself...the ultra obscure recording they did for Christmas of We Three Kings! I've been waiting over 20 years to own this song that WLIR played for only one season. This alone makes this an essential purchase.

And Lullaby is equally ideal. All the bonus tracks are pretty much ALL the 12" mixes released from this album, including mixes of Pretty Boys Pretty Girls, Witchcraft, and Lullaby.

Fans who have been looking to have most of their remixes on CD instead of vinyl--at last, you can rejoice.

The track lists for each release can be found here:

It's so great to have Daniel Miller's mix of I Touch Roses on CD--since it was only the b-side to the 12" of You Make Me Feel So Good. Only thing that surprises me about the two-disc set is that they didn't include the 12" 'spirited mix' of Lost Souls, which was also on the b-side of You Make Me Feel So Good!

Imagine if they'd included the early single from the Philadelphia compilation they were on, when they were a much more new wave, edgier sounding group. That rare track would have been great to get on that first CD.

Sorry, just realized, I already have the Daniel Miller mix of I Touch Roses on Retro Active 1. The only 12" I wanted on CD from the first album was Lost Souls. And of course, We Three Kings.

Cool. Thanks for the news.

edit// Hmm, taking a closer look at the tracklist, "Book of Love" doesn't have the 12" mixes that were on the original CD release. Pretty sad if that's true.

yeah, pretty weird. They make it two discs, and then remove all the original bonus tracks--so you'll have to keep two versions. Personally, I could have done without demo versions.

Great news but I have mixed reactions to the bonus tracks. Why didn't they put the remix of "Lost Souls" on here? That's one of their best remixes ever. I also hate getting demo versions. That's why I passed on buying The Cure remasters because they contained mostly demo versions. Thank goodness they didn't put the awful Boy 200 remixes on here. Complaints aside, it will be very cool to get the "We Three Kings" and "Modigliani (instrumental)" on cd. The bonus tracks from the 2nd cd is cool too but since I have the cd singles, it'll just be cool to have it all on one cd. I wonder if the "Alice Everyday" mixes from the 3rd album are the radio versions from the promo cd?!? If so, that would be cooler than the extended versions. Only one comment about "Lovebubble", I wish they would have made a longer version of "Enchanted". It's going to be hard to decide if I'm going to just pick up the 1st two albums or all four.

Along with the Spirited Mix of "Lost Souls", they should have stuck in all of the extended and dub mixes from the 1st album and the entire "Witchcraft" 12 inch single. A dvd with their videos and some live performances would not have hurt either. I wonder why the people who put this together didn't do some research on the web to see what was missing and put those songs on here.

according to the write-up in the Collector's Choice Music catalog I got, the band was involved with the track selection. If they weren't I don't think We Three Kings would ever have surfaced. I can imagine that they've probably been hounded by fans for years about that song being released.

I'm also a little disappointed that the so called 7" mix of tubular bells isn't included because it's actually longer than the album version that segues into pretty boys pretty girls. a longer version was included on the greatest hits CD, but it was still a bit shorter than the 7" version.
