<br>What about social fools from the be stiff ep? I don't believe that has been put on CD at all. Or how about just putting the entire ep remastered on the AWNM re-release?
forgot to put that one. it's on the virgin records two-fer of "q:a"/"devo live" that came out in the mid 90's. still in print, i think. so there is another one we already have...
No - Social fools was released in three different recordings, the Hardcore version, as the b-side to Be Stiff and then b-side to cCome Back Jonee. The Be Stiff version has never been on CD.

<br>yes, i've been moaning and bitching about the new deluxe re-issues, and while i am really happy the albums are finally remastered i was not thrilled with the bonus content. a concert from this year? THAT'S the bonus content on this masterpiece? boo.

BUT THAT GOT ME THINKING.
was there even anything left in the vaults? devo have managed to get lots of stuff to us through the years on many different cd's. and so i did a little looking through the cd collection and this is what i found: we get no bonuses because maybe there are no more!

here's the deal:
"demos" released on hardcore devo vol. 1:
jocko homo
social fools
mongoloid

"demos" on hardcore devo vol 2:
be stiff

on "greatest misses"
be stiff
satisfaction
jocko homo
("be stiff" ep versions)

on "live: mongoloid years":
paranoias
praying hands
uncontrollable urge
mongoloid
gut feeling
sloppy
come back jonee
jocko homo

on "pioneers":
mongoloid (stiff ep)

on "recombo dna":
sloppy (demo)

so that's a lot of extras! really, we could have had some remastered versions of these (especially the ryko stuff)- but i think extras would have been all stuff we already had anyway, you know?
The versions of "Jocko Homo" on "Greatest Misses"/"Hardcore Volume One" and "Pioneers" are different. "Pioneers" is the only one with the true single version, with the "O-hi-o" break in the middle.

The "Flimsy Wrap" flexi-disc has still not been issued on CD, nor has the original version of "Social Fools," as others have noted. (It is slightly different than the Virgin twofer version. I can't tell if the Virgin one is the original studio recording with overdubs or a full-blown re-recording.)

Also, the "Satisfaction" demo was on "Hardcore" and "Greatest Misses" and a different version of "Be Stiff" is on "Recombo."

Technically, "Penetration in the Centrefold" would also fit in here. It is often lumped in with "Duty Now for the Future" because it was released as the b-side of "...Surprize," but it was produced by Eno and comes from the Q&A sessions.

Anyhow, I'm of the belief that something professing to be a "deluxe edition" should contain at least some of these tracks in one place. Even just having a few remastered b-sides would have been nice. The second version of "Social Fools" could certainly use a sonic upgrade from the Virgin twofer.

Also keep in mind that all of those Ryko collections are now long out of print.

You know anything about the 2 disc Devo "anthology"? is that OOP too? I picked it up recently, but haven't had time to listen to it. I dig the 3 d cover.

Oops, correct spelling..."Pioneers Who Got Scalped". Anyway, that 3-D cover is really cool, and it's a pretty good gathering of the Warner Bros. stuff.

Do the deluxe cd's come in any special packaging? (i.e. box set, digipak, etc.) I want to pick the Devo remasters but don't know which one to get now. The deluxe cd's, the Ultra Devo-lux Ltd. Edition, or the Japanese vinyl style cd covers. Any suggestions?

There's no special packaging with the deluxe reissues. There is a CD booklet, but nothing in either jumped out at me as special. They both come in regular jewel cases. It was pretty disappointing, in terms of packaging.

I've listened only to Q: so far. Sounds pretty good to me. I'm not expert on this album's various releases and I haven't heard the Japanese remasters, so I can't compare it.

Thanks for the info guys. I'm leaning towards the Ultra Devo-lux Ltd. Edition due to the demos and the ultra cool packaging although I love those Japanese album style pressings.

From what I can discern, the only demo on this deluxe package that is previously unreleased is "Uncontrollable Urge." All of the other demos have either been issued on "Recombo DNA" or "Hardcore Devo: Vol. 1."
