The Buggles - Adventures In Modern Recording

The Buggles - Adventures In Modern Recording

Postby moni » Thu Dec 31, 2009 10:10 pm

Never before reissued on CD outside Japan, Adventures… is something of a lost classic, with great vocals by Trevor and a sparkling electronic sound that is completely in-step with the prevailing “electro” mood of the pop charts in 2010. Trevor Horn is in the news once more for his excellent work on the new Robbie Williams album, Reality Killed The Video Star, and alongside all the B-sides and remixes of the era, he has personally selected several previously-unheard demo recordings – including Videotheque (a Top 20 hit – produced by Trevor - the following year for Dollar) and We Can Fly From Here parts 1 & 2, which was originally written for and performed by Yes – as bonus tracks.

Bonus Tracks

1. Fade Away
2. Blue Nylon
3. I Am A Camera (12” mix)
4. We Can Fly From Here – part 1
5. Dion
6. Videotheque
7. On TV
8. Walking On Glass (original version of Lenny)
9. Riding A Tide
10. We Can Fly From Here – part 2

There is no release date to be found i got that information from here http://www.unionsquaremusic.co.uk/title ... ABEL_ID=17

Seems very odd that they are reissuing those 808 state albums when ztt reissued them just last year and they are still widely available to buy.

I am guessing Union Square is taking over further pressings (= continuation) of these 2-CDs. /JW

The "On TV" extra track must be the 12" version. Blue Nylon, well either Trevor did not like it, or they could not find the tapes, or they simply had forgotten about it at the time of the mastering. In any case I have it from vinyl.... /JW

Where does an extended version of Blue Nylon reside? I have the 'Adventures" 12" and it seems to be the same as the 7"

On the French 12" single of On TV, it lasts just under 4 minutes.

So Trevor Horn must have licensed or bought the rights?

Hey Scott,
There's a mint French On TV on Ebay with a somewhat high Buy it Now of $30. I'm sure you've seen it but I thought I'd let you know in case.

Thanks for the heads up. That item is always pricey. I would love to hear the mix of Blue Nylon before purchasing. I think I'll post a request in the Obscure 80's section.

Yes, perhaps it's not so dramatically different. Worship that song so it's still potentially exciting. Shocking that it's news to you in 2010 (expert that you are). Perhaps it will make an appearance on CAR #16 (hint hint LOL).
