Remasters that are obviously not Remasters..

Even Rhino is allowed a hiccup every now and then, but to be honest I didn't have too big of a problem with the New Order reissues which is why I haven't been in a rush to pick up the corrected versions...

Edsel did do a good job on the Blancmange remasters as well.

There are all sorts of different people producing CDs for people like Cherry Red, etc, so the product is bound to differ.

I co-developed and remastered Princess, Lonnie Gordon, Mandy Smith, Helen Terry, Sinitta 'The Hits+ Collection' and out on the 15th Feb - Haywoode's Arrival. A great deal of work went into them - there is a lot involved to do it properly! It's an art as well as a science, built on a lot of research. Masters are in a variety of formats and conditions and each project has its own varying set of challenges.

You should feedback constructive criticism directly to the various companies. Direct customer feedback - positive and negative - is very important to them in getting issues identified and addressed.

> Also, someone here mentioned the Thompson Twins remasters? Was there a horrible job done on them? if so, I cant seem to find it.

I think the negative comments are mostly aimed towards the first two albums, which I would have to agree with. The next three were okay, in my books. There were a few tracks that were sourced from vinyl, but for the price (mid-priced CD for two discs), I'm okay with that. They could have left those vinyl tracks off, but then people would have moaned that the sets are incomplete ...

In regards to New Order, not only did they fuck up the mastering, but they fucked up how they handled the corrected remasters. Add to that the half-assed track selection (eg. not the full 12" of Shell-Shock) + numerous compilations = I'm not paying $$ for that.

I recently bought "The Babys Anthology" on the Dutch label , "Disky",on the very positive customer reviews on Amazon & I was blown away on the 24 bit digital remastering !!
You could hear all the brass arrangements on the songs,"Everytime I Think Of You & Isnt It Time " in the backing mix which was sooooo buried in the original Chrysalis releases years ago.
I've got several releases (Pop & New Wave) on the Disky label & it seems they do a terrific job on the remastering & packaging.

Is there any compilation of New Order that has the near 10 minute mix of Shellshock? There are so many compilations and boxed sets at this point I've lost track.

There was a problem with disc 2 of Into The Gap but fixed versions were sent out apart from that the first disc sounded fine. The remasters of Quick Step and Here's To Future Days were absolutely fine to my ears more than what could be said for Product/ Set which were just crappy vinyl transfers though I'm not too keen on either of those albums so it's no great loss.

Thats right. I remember it took them forever to send me the corrected version of that. The first one they *supposedly* sent, was returned(so they claim), and the second one was delivered like a month and a half later w/no problems at all getting to me.

The corrected version was only marginally better. I can't understand why Arista/BMG were not involved and did the whole thing themselves. They probably own all the matser tapes.

Try this link: http://neworder-recycle.blogspot.com/20 ... shock.html
Assuming its still up of course. If you can't find it then it probably wasn't an official release.
