How much do you hate V.D.?

I'm of course talking about Valentine's Day. Thank God it's all going to be over in five days. People who are in love don't need a special day to flaunt it in the faces of those who aren't. As John Blutarski once said, who's with me?!?

According to a recent Reuters Poll, 20% would rather spend VD with their pets.

This morning, I passed by a billboard for a jewelry store that shows a diamond ring and says

Make sure "Mr. Right" gets it right.

I'm just speechless.

That's the whole problem with V.D. - it takes a perfectly sweet gesture and turns it into an obligation. I've been the guy who's had to buy an $80 bouquet of roses (you know, the one that was $15 the previous week) because his girlfriend will hate him for life if he doesn't. I walk by jewelry stores and florists shops and just laugh at those guys now. Does that make me a bad person?

<p align="justify">In the old days, when I used to have a girlfriend, I'd buy the stuff way in advance: bracelet, necklace, watch, chocolates, cards, etc., and hide them at my parents' house. I took a long time picking and choosing this stuff, usually getting the advice and opinion of mothers, aunts, and other women; thinking of the right quote or saying for the card and practised my penmanship for hours to get it to look right; and even did a little mix cd for some! Hahaha. Valentine's Day was a pretext to get her something without coming off as too random, too much (otherwise, I'm liable to do just that...). I never got flowers for this day.

Those ships have sailed, but every day is like a Christmas and a Valentine's Day because when it comes to me I seldom make plans for tomorrow when I can do it today[}:)]
