Belouis Some - Some People (new remaster edition)

Postby Rubellan » Tue Feb 02, 2010 8:19 am

I'm OK with Wounded Bird as well. They always use masters, they just don't necessarily "remaster". I'll take a flat transfer from a master over a tweaked vinyl rip anyday. But then I only have about 10 WB titles, so maybe I've just been lucky.

I've accepted Wounded Bird for what they are.. i just wish their releases sounded better than just transfers.

Amazon.Uk still has the old version for download but says that the product description is of the new 2010 version. I don't know. I guess the the new cd version will be out later this month. I want Belouis Some's second album to be re-issued. I hope that if Cherry Red does it they wont screw up again.

Amazon has yet to show any distinction between the current version and a reissue, so I fear that they will just keep the same listing and fulfill ordered eventually with the new stock.

I emailed Cherry Red over a week ago to ask if they were going to offer a replacement service for unfortunates like me who bought the first edition, and they haven't even bothered to reply.

Great customer service there.

I feel everybody who bought this originally should be doing the same thing asking for a replacement. If you bought a CD from elsewhere which was scratched or faulty then you could return it for a replacement or a full refund i don't see any difference in this scenario. Hopefully i can find the fixed version to download for free because there is no way I'm paying for the same thing twice.

According to their website it is being (re)issued with the same catalogue number as the crap edition, so makes sense to me if you get a faulty one they replace it with a (hopefully) decent one.

It kind of sucks because you don't want to buy from them but you end up buying from them anyways because they are one of the few labels releasing good reissues. They should clean up their act because we will all get fed up at some point. This is really not a difficult issue to correct, just get the mastering done right the first time.

Some People was released originally on EMI/Capitol wasn't it ? I'm sure a major label like that would have the master copies in their vaults.

Same here. I've over the years bought many cds from Cherry Pop & Edsel. Some were excellent while the others were nasty.

Today i finally decided to take the risk and buy the "new" version of Some People...... Well here it goes:
The newer version sounds only marginally better. Only some of the vinyl hiss/distortion has been reduced that was so obvious in the old version, yet the clarity just isn't there ! What happened Cherry Red ??? This album was one of the highlights of the 80s and should be given more care. By the way it still has the old catalogue/barcode no. (buyer beware).
