Could one of the moderators please clean up this mess. We should attempt to keep the focus of the NWO in line with its spirit and namesake.

The internet is a big place, what's wrong with having a little slice of it with a somewhat narrow focus? Seems if there is enough passion and interest one could start a site dedicated to SAW acts.

Agreed...I come here to get my fix of New Wave/Post-Punk/College Rock/Electronic/Indie (and those in the spirit of the scene, Bowie/Iggy/Roxy, etc,) and find it disheartening to find major posts on the likes of Rick Astley, Sinitta, Huey Lewis, SAW, etc.

Things seem to have gone off the rails these past few months and I for one would like to see things return to normal and stay on target with the focus of this site.

yes please no more mention of erasure, heaven 17, tears for fears, howard jones, king, pet shop boys, belouis some and blancmange since they are all not new wave. lets ignore the fact that a lot of US listeneres associate new wave with 80s synthpop. Lets ignore that this site itself was based upon these assumptions (take a look at the songlist on the main page). let us ignore the premise of this site and focus on the obscure guitar based post punk bands who were played maybe once or twice on an obscure canadian radio station. yes let us focus on that kind of "new wave". In fact we can impose a few rules,
1.no artist beyond 83, since new wave started 77/78 and peaked in 83. No artist after that can really claim to be part of the "new wave" movement.
2.Lets stick to bands that "new wave" collectors associate with new wave such as elivs costello, blondie and talking heads.

people wishing to talk about belouis some or red box can visit a synthpop reissue forum (wait there isn't one..oh well)

maybe rememberthe80s should start a forum.

Humanracer,
You don't get it...We have a very, very liberal definition of New Wave here. Rick Astley and 99% of the SAW acts don't belong even under that most liberal definition. Why is this so hard to understand? I think a few SAW fans are getting there shorts in a bunch and starting to post out of spite.

I hate saw acts too but people are moaning about a-ha and other mid 80s acts. Why is belious some allowed but not a-ha. It is making up rules as you go along. also remember dead or alive was a saw act, should they be banned. The forum has become a joke.

Unfortunately, there has been a slow but steady influx of morons spewing their crap all over the place here ever since eight6 stopped posting. Nobody seemed to notice how bad it was until it was too late and now we have a full-blown infestation of taste-impaired douchebags.

Swamp - although I agree there's a problem, I don't know that the mods need to get involved. I think it would be far more fun to just ridicule these assclowns until they get the message. [:D]

Or, better yet: stop posting in the threads? if it's not your cup of tea, move on to something that is? seems simple to me.

Or, better yet ... if it doesn't fit the BROAD scope of the board where you're about to post it, move on to a board where it does?

Seems simple to you? As simple as properly using the fucking quote function?

Agreed.

I'm sure glad I discovered this place so many years ago. If I were to have stumbled into it recently, I would have looked at the thread list and thought how lame, site claims "Where New Wave, Punk, Power Pop and 80's Alternative Live On" and people are posting about Rick Astley and a bunch of other lame "acts".

If the site just becomes a free for all to post anything it starts to lose it's purpose. That's one of the reasons "—Not Necessarily New Wave—" forum was created.

For the people who keep bring up act such as as, heaven 17, tears for fears, howard jones, king, pet shop boys, belouis some and blancmange. Please really? Really? All those acts were played on 'new wave', 'modern rock' and 'college rock' stations back in the day, we all get that. Only a small handful of people would debate their inclusion. But Rick Astley and majority SAW acts? Never heard them on those stations, if I did they would have surely lost me as a listener.

I wasn't directing it towards you, just as a general statement? seems some folks are pissy about certain acts being/not being "new wave" here? I was simply trying to say that if it's not your cup of tea, why bother posting to it, just ignore it, move on, and post on a thread about a band you do like?

Take a chill pill.

I can see both sides of this issue, and I had somebody on here tease me about fine young cannibals or the english beat or something a while back, but I agree 100% with Riverman - if I like it, great, if not I don't even click on the topic. It's just like TV or the radio - if you don't like it, change the channel. I do try to stick to bands I think fall under the umbrella of this wonderful site, but that's my subjectivity, just like the SAW fans.
