New SO 80's compilation and Grand 12 Inches

Postby budaniel » Fri Mar 26, 2010 1:59 am

The Ideal Copy newsletter today featured So 80's volume 2, which actually has a couple of surprise 12" versions that have never appeared on CD before:

Grand 12 Inches 7 was also announced, but it has mostly 70s dance music and some 80s electronic club music:

Me too and i wonder if they will be using vinyl rips again like they did on the first volume. Hearing the needle lifting at the end of Scritti Polliti's Oh Patti was shocking considering it's available on CD on Provision and West End Girls (Extended Mix) sounds horrible on that.

oh man. I didn't know there were issues with the first one, which I don't have. The three tracks that caught my eye here were the 12" versions of Midge Ure, Endgames and KTP.

I wonder if Belouis Some's Imagination is the 5.27 version or the Uk Dance Mix which is 6.00 long. Does anyone know ?

It lasts 5.30 so it isn't the UK Dance Mix.

A Sticker on the cover of the 3CD set indicates that the 12" versions on this release are Digitally Remastered from the original master tapes.

cheers!

I received my copy of so80s 2 today, and I've only listened to the 5 or 6 12" mixes I didn't already have on CD, and I must say, it's as clean as a whistle. Does not sound like it was mastered from vinyl. Only complaint is, I find it really unnecessary to have one continuously mixed CD of tracks that are on the other two discs, when all collectors really want at this point is as many full length unmixed 12" versions that have never been on CD before...I say scrap the self-indulgent Blank & Jones continuous mix and just give us 3 disc sets of full length club mixes.
