Good Remasters

I've had no complaints at all about the Mobiles CD. Amour Amour is a very distorted song in general. The distortion is inherant in the original recording, as can be confirmed by the single, lp and 12", all of which have heavy distortions, which may have been intentional at the time of mixing. The only distortions on Drowning in Berlin is the keyboard solo right after the fairground section. Again, that's inherant on any vinyl pressing, lp or single, that I've heard, and it's not very distorted, just a bit loudly recorded.

Yes mines had those stickers as well but nowhere in the sleeve notes does it mention that either has been remastered. They do sound very good though so no complaints here. I just wonder why they weren't released worldwide it would have been nice if they could have remastered Romantic as well.

I think you're right. I listened to different versions of it today and indeed the song is like that inherently. Oh by the way I was under the impression that you had also re-mastered The Expressions CDs. did you not?

<br>The only New Order remaster I have is Power,Corruption & Lies which I thought sounded ok. Maybe I should listen again. Unforgettable Fire was way better than all the other U2 ones. Since we're discussing this i thought I'd mention Kajagoogoo's cds from 2004 . The sound quality was at best average considering it was EMI (maybe that Andy Walters was involved) although there's no mention on the white Feathers cd about him. US label Caroline Records did a wonderful job in remastering The Human League albums Dare,Hysteria and Crash from 2005. Also the ABC remasters both from 1998 and 2005 were quite good.

The 1998 remaster of Beauty Stab was horrible - there was a huge sound fault on one track which made it unlistenable - suddenly a great blast of noise if I remember rightly, I can't remember which off the top of my head. That was the first CD remaster I ever returned. The original 1983/4 still sounds great so I haven't bothered with the 2005 edition.

I was not involved in the Expression CD's. The only thing I did for the Almacantar label was two songs on their Our Daughter's Wedding CD. What ever happened with that label?

They are still selling their limited catalogue online [:D] and there's an art cover of Perfect Strangers record that has been on their web page for over 3 years saying "coming soon". not soon enough I guess. [:D]

What's wrong with the Killing Joke remasters? They sound fine to me and are an improvement on the original EG versions.

I'm not an engineer but this sort of feedback is frustrating...many fans are quite happy to trade in the old Cds for the crisp shiny new ones, so why the hell bother if the packaging is great but the sound is subpar?

What I am more frustrated about is the remasters that delete tracks from the original CD issues...case in point, Depeche Mode. The CDs are aesthetically pleasing and sound brilliant...BUT several have deleted tracks...Speak and Spell, A Broken Frame, Construction Time Again, Black Celebration and especially Music For the Masses. The DVD adds some of these tracks, but what's the point when most people want to listen to them in the car and burn them on their iPods?

Awesome job on these my friend, they came out very very well, IMO. You, and maybe a slect few knows how to remaster properly? w/all this recent news about how shitty some remasters are...IM glad I'm passing on buying so many. The DOA remaster is excellent, as is The Mood.[:D]

I find them dull and lifeless, which I noticed immediately when putting them on. I did side by side comparisons with the original EG issues, and found those more satisfying.

I also need to update one of the remasters from my list. Having only received the New Order remasters, with the corrected second discs, I just now got to prepping Movement for the iPod. I find that while the sound on disc 2 is generally good, there's definitely some heavy compression on some tracks. Temptation 12" is really squashed. But oh well... Plus, I received two different copies of Low Life, and both have the wrong printing on the discs. Disc 1 is printed as disc 2 and vice versa. Guess I'm stuck with this.

Amusingly enough, I went to a local CD shop yesterday and purchased a used copy of the original debut Duran Duran CD from the late 80's. I haven't heard this issue in years, and came to the conclusion that it is definitely the best quality. The volume is low and all dynamics are intact. However, I did need to do a modest amount of re-EQing before replacing the files on my iPod. I'm contemplating seeking out the original Arista CD's of the early Church albums, considering their entire reissue program is super compressed.

Which tracks aren't on the remasters of A Broken Frame and Construction Time Again that were on the original release ? I suppose they must have presumed that everybody would have those single box sets also But Not Tonight was only a bonus track on the American version of Black Celebration

the US versions had extra tracks I think, remixes of secret garden and everything counts. I just ripped the PMC audio from my DVD discs.

I agree that the Simple Minds remasters were good, but I was disappointed in the DVD-Audio of Once Upon A Time. The drums get completely lost in the mix. The SACD, however, is stunning (but it's only 2-channel stereo).

Anyone have any opinions on the Reach The Beach reissue by The Fixx in 2003? I oversaw the project, but did not do the actual remastering. However, the guy who did worked very hard to make it sound as close as possible to the original UK vinyl. I'm just curious if people here like the sound on it or not.

They did. Black Celebration had But Not Tonight, Construction Time Again had the extended mix of Everything Counts, A Broken Frame had Further Excerpts from My Secret Garden and Music For the Masses had four bonus cuts including Pleasure Little Treasure (one of their best).

How do you rip the DVD bonus tracks to iTunes? I have tried but was unsuccessful so any assistance would be great.

In regards to the Fixx remasters, I have these and think they sound great...I am not a sound engineer, but they sound good to me, if this helps.

Which is the best version of Simple Minds-New Gold Dream as far as sound quality is concerned? I found a copy of the 2002 virgin records version that came in the cardboard sleeve. Help

I have the 2002 version of Once Upon A Time which i thought sounded good. All the SM 2002 re-issues were good i guess. Virgin never really screws up.
