Got my copy here in the US today. The overall sound was quite good, although the 7"/12" mixes of The Promise would've been slightly better at a higher recording level.

Go easy on Andy Walter, he's just doing what the client asks for.

I think the Arcadia reissues sound very good. Certainly not the botch job that the first DD album was.

I just got the Arcadia set yesterday, and it's a real mish mash. Some songs are highly compressed and loud, others show no compression and display the full dynamic range, while others were highly compressed, then the volume lowered, which is pointless because you can see all the detail has been mashed out. I will get into fuller detail in the next day or two, but I will say side by side comparisons with the original US CD shows the new version does have improved sound, and most of the original album tracks have mild to nearly no compression. The extra tracks are all over the place, and the volume is very inconsistent throughout.

What did the client ask him to fuck up the sound on both those albums and if that wasn't bad enough to fuck up the start of GOF as well[?] These discs should be recalled and fixed at the very least. I do agree with you about the Arcadia reissue it does sound good but it still has flaws and what's the betting in a few months time when Notorious and Big Thing come out we will more than likely be having these discussions again unless they have had sense to use a different engineer to remaster those.

I received this reissue here in the mail yesterday and am enjoying it so far.

I'm no audiophile and most of my music listening takes place in my truck on the way to and from work, but I'm mostly happy with the sound on Disc 1. "The Flame" sounds somewhat muted compared to the other songs, though, and it's one song that shouldn't sound muted. The opening notes of "The Flame" should blow me into the next room, considering how loud the other songs are.

I'm probably in the minority, but I like the fat jewel box casing. It's been awhile since I've seen double/triple jewel box casing and it's a good thing, even if jewel boxes are more fragile these days.

For the most part, I'm pleased with the reissue of So Red The Rose...one of my all time favorite albums and one that I didn't think anybody else cared about anymore.

I don't hate the fat jewel cases, but when the other two triple-disc Duran albums got the packaging treatment that they did, a jewel case is a letdown.

I'd rather have the jewel cases, than those shitty paper covers/sleeves, why? they efventually scratch your discs taking them, in and out all the time, just MO anyways.

I picked my copy up Sunday, and have been listenign to it the past 2 days...I cant hear anything out of the ordinary on any of the discs, except for the low volume level on "The Flame". But, that wouldnt make me disappointed that I bought it. Frankly, this album is near impossible to find @ a reasonable price. So, I bought the new one, and Im happy with it.

But what you want is the (original) US CD, which doesn't have the shitty cover that the EU pressings have.

Was this released in the States? I believe the DD website said it was, but I can't find it retail anywhere here.

I just got a promo"advance" copy of this in the mail......pretty cool. Anyone have one, or know what one would go for?

Plain b&w cover, no liner notes

Re: 210 Say the Word Extended Instrumental

Does anyone notice some funky "skipping" at 5:12 and 5:16.

The beats kind of jump around, like they didn't splice the tape correctly when remixing. It's not skipping in the conventional sense.

I don't notice this on the Heaven's Eyes bootleg (which clocks at 5:38, compared to the official release, which clocks in at 5:47).
