Health Insurance

Postby Max Murdoc » Wed Jun 02, 2010 11:21 pm

So, has anybody seen any recent changes?

We switched to a new provider and it's going to cost me an extra $50.00 a month plus my deductible has gone from $500 to $2500(single coverage). If I want to add my daughter it will cost me an extra $100 a month and my deductible goes to $7000.

So....when am I going to see something good here with this "Health Reform" I've been hearing so much about?

I'm sure Sally will be along shortly with some bullshit defense of Obamacare, but in the meantime, I would suggest that if you ever expect to benefit from anything this piece of shit president signs into law that you quit your job, stop paying taxes, and become one of the legions of welfare collecting parasites or braindead liberals who support him.

In other words, I should do what my sister has been doing for the last 30 years. Get a Dr. to say that I am depressed and collect S.S. disability. Let's see, not bad for someone who has only worked maybe 1 year out of her adult life.

The health care bill was signed 10 weeks ago, f***ers. There isn't anything enacted as of signing day that would significantly impact your private, employer-backed health care arrangement.

For more information about what the changes are and the timetables for phasing them in (thru 2018), see:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Affordable ... _enactment

If you want to see how the Health Care bill will affect you, try this link:

http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2010 ... eform.html

By the way, the cost of health care premiums will not likely go down (unless you buy your coverage individually, on the awesome open market like any principled capitalist). Many of the features to drive competition and reduce premiums were removed from the bill because competition is scary and bad when it impacts the right of an oligopoly to maximize profits from sick people. Kay? That kinda shit is Natzi Marxist Socializm, and that's not what our founding fathers died for in WWII.

Well, thanks for the links but since I am part of this conversation, I object to the f***ers remark.

I guess I should been paying more attention when this whole thing started. It's hard to pay attention when you know you're going to get screwed somewhere down the line.

Sounds like you've identified a winning formula for getting ahead in society, like a plan hatched by the libertarian underpants gnomes:

Quit job

Become destitute

?

Profit!!!!

There's just no hope for you. At all.

BTW, your question mark in between become destitue and profit should be "develop an addiction" or "become morbidly obese". I figured you, of all people, would know that.
I retract the f***ers remark. If it makes you feel any better, I meant it in a friendly way, as in, "Hey f***ers, what's up?", or,"Ok, which one of you f***ers poured hot sauce in my beer?!?"

With regard to paying attention, I'm not sure it makes much difference. The system is set up as winner-take-all, which provides incentive for you to strive to succeed and become top dog. And when you reach the top of the heap, don't forget to say,"I got mine, what's your problem?; I'm proof that the system works!"

And even if you don't reach the top of the heap, you can look down at the downtrodden saps below you and say,"You poor lazy bastards with the free foodstamps, free schools, free healthcare and free homeless shelters. You've gamed the system and shown how it has failed."

Fair enough.

The whole political process here in america (notice the lower case "a") is a sham. I know we are all about capitalism and everything but to use it against ourselves?

On a slightly different level, here's a plan which was incorrectly attributed to Robin Williams.

Here's the plan (needs to be updated though):

1) The US will apologize to the world for our "interference" in their
affairs, past & present. You know, Hitler, Mussolini and the rest
of them 'good old boys'. We will never "interfere" again.

2) We will withdraw our troops from all over the world, starting with
Germany, South Korea and the Philippines. They don't want us
there. We would station troops at our borders. No more sneaking
through holes in the fence.

3) All illegal aliens have 90 days to get their affairs together and
leave. We'll give them a free trip home. After 90 days the
remainder will be gathered up and deported immediately,
regardless of who or where they are. France would welcome them.

4) All future visitors will be thoroughly checked and limited to 90
days unless given a special permit. No one from a terrorist
nation would be allowed in. If you don't like it there,
change it yourself, don't hide here. Asylum would not ever be
available to anyone. We don't need any more cab drivers.

5) No "students" over age 21. The older ones are the bombers. If they
don't attend classes, they get a "D" and it's back home baby.

6) The US will make a strong effort to become self sufficient energy
wise. This will include developing non polluting sources of
energy but will require a temporary drilling of oil in the Alaskan
wilderness. The caribou will have to cope for a while.

7) Offer Saudi Arabia and other oil producing countries $10 a barrel
for their oil. If they don't like it, we go someplace else.

8) If there is a famine or other natural catastrophe in the world, we
will not "interfere". They can pray to Allah or whomever, for seeds,
rain, cement or whatever they need. Besides' most of what we
give them is stolen or given to the army. The people who need it
most get very little, if any anyway.

9) Ship the UN Headquarters to an island some place. We don't
need the spies and fair weather friends here. Besides, it would
make a good homeless shelter or lockup for illegal aliens.

10) All Americans must go to charm and beauty school. That way,
no one can call us "Ugly Americans" any longer.

11) And lastly bring back the manufacturing from our country, curtail the
cheap imports from all over the world and put the middle class back to work
in our country.

Now, ain't that a winner of a plan.

Needs updating? Now that's an understatement. That plan sounds more like a list of common misconceptions on all of those topics.

I won't be pedantic and respond to each of those points today, I've already reached my daily quota for pissing people off.

The update only refers to point 2. List all countries that we are "involved" in.

The rest I agree with.

I can tell you that my Aunt lost her job and has to buy Cobra. The new health plan SAVED her $500.00 a month. She never would have been able to afford her health insurance without it.
Not sure if anyone remembers this ridiculous talking point during the debate: "Congressional democrats are going to pass the evil healthcare bill using budget reconciliation!! It's unprecedented!!" Well, the "BRA" part of the COBRA acronym stands for "Budgetary Reconciliation Act" which was passed in 1985. Amazing anyone could make that argument with a straight face, but then partisan politics sure makes for some colorful theater.

Some of these same politicians are still peddling the belief that the healthcare bill is unconstitutional. Don't hold your breath waiting for that ruling.

Max, other reasons that might have caused your health insurance to go up:

* You have a bunch of sick co-workers and/or their families.

* Your employer passed more of the insurance expenses on to the employees.

* Your employer has fewer employees, making your company a bigger risk to insure.

These are all market-based forces, which to many, are good.

Then there's the possibility that this is flat-out price gouging, because the insurance companies can get away with it. There's certainly enough fear, uncertainty, and doubt out there that this is the path to socialism. The insurance companies had better get their profits now.
