c'mon, you are going to tell me no hockey goalie ever tried to swipe one back across the line and out of the net? Stealing signs in baseball? Steroids? The NBA officiating is equally as bad. Heck, football has instant replay but they can't even use it on half the calls!
I like your argument for more referees though, it would be a welcome addition. And FIFA is sorry now so everyone can relax. And what is the appeal??? Have you not read about people being killed for watching games, letting in goals, crying during the games??????

The English are probably relieved because the controversy gives them an "out". "We lost our momentum after the disallowed goal...otherwise the game would have had a different outcome".

The open admission of the dishonesty doesn't look good on the game. You're right in your examples, but I can't recall similar admissions of dishonesty in other sports.
