I Need A Chest Thumping Moment Here...

I FIXED MY TV myself for the cost of parts! SCREW YOU Samsung and your faulty components and estimated $500 repair bill plus shipping. **thumps chest proudly**

My 3 year old Samsung LCD television suddenly stopped working, and naturally I didn't buy the extended warranty.

After scoruing the internet I discovered Samsung has a well documented problem with their LCD tv's not turning on. The culprit parts are 4 tiny capacitors that cost about $2 each at Radioshack. It blows me away that Samsung does not stand behind this problem. Why spend $1,000+ on a tv when the components Samsung chooses to use are crap?

I will never buy a Samsung product again. Foreign crap. (I can't say Korean crap or my wife will kill me).

that's awesome! I love DIY fixes for stuff like that. I have an old CRT Sammy HDTV that I bought about 7 years ago and it hasn't given me any trouble yet. (crosses fingers)

Awesome! Reminds me of the time I took an Onkyo carousel CD changer into a repair shop because I noticed the discs were skipping when they were near the end (or edge) of the CD. 2 weeks and $150 later, they clearly had not fixed it at all, so I removed the case, observed that there was a mechanical glitch in the tracking mechanism and jerry rigged it by wedging a small piece of paper into it -- worked like a charm![8D]

Keep an eye on those Radio S. caps.They're as cheap as the ones originally installed in your Samsung power supply.Hopefully, they will last a while with no problem.

This is a very common problem with lcd tv's from just about any brand with cheap Chinese caps in the power supplies.I've been dealing with electronics on circuit board levels for many years.

I'm glad you have the knowledge to fix it,however,if you change any more out I recommend Panasonic fc electrolytics as they are designed for low esr,high heat(105 degree),and at least several thousand hours.

Apologies if i'm threadcapping here--that was not my intention at all.I've used these caps in my tv's,stereo equipment,blu ray players etc... as they are designed for industrial applications.

I understand about being upset with your tv crapping out.Hope you get more years of solid use out of it.

Hey, thanks for the advice! I know nothing about electronics but as soon as I started researching the problem on the internet I thought, "hey, I can do this". But I was in a hurry to see if I could fix it and didn't really research the caps. If it fails again I will take your advice.

The most valuable part of this experience was cracking open the tv and showing the kids what makes it works, and demonstrating to them that "stuff" doesn't have to be disposable, it can be repaired.

Hey man good for you dude ! In the event something else happens and you cant fix the suspect board here's a place that may have it in stock.This is still much cheaper than paying a tech because all they'll do is swap out the board and charge out the ass for it:
