Howard Jones " Remasters" Out in Nov.

Likewise I am disappointed by the bare bones remaster, and will probably wait to see if the remastering is incredible enough to bother getting these instead of waiting for the remix CD, IF it comes.

We all know that promised remix collections have a way of not happening. :P

At least they ought to be smart enough to have seen the demand for such is enough to warrant it. On the plus side, perhaps the fact that a disc will be all mixes means we'll get more of them....but I have a bad feeling it's going to be missing things. Remix comps almost never have everything you want them to.

Anyway, if any of you do pick up the remasters, I hope you'll comment on the sound quality improvement.

I'm now not buying. Waste of time. I'll see what the remix CDs are like but these are crap.

I tought thry were going to be delux versions.

Very disappointing.

Price Depending - I might pass on them as well. I was looking forward to them.

What a missed opportunity.

I'm disappointed in the non-deluxe versions as well. But, if the price is right and the remastering is done well (two big 'if's), it would be worth replacing the old Dream Into Action CD, which, to my ears, suffers from the same harsh mastering as the Scritti Politti "Cupid & Psyche '85" CD.

But, again, I agree: what a missed opportunity.

And of course, since not a whole lot of people will buy the vanilla remastered Hojo CDs, the conclusion will be that there is no market for Howard Jones reissues, and the 12" CD will never come out.

This sort of reissue program would have worked in the 90s, but now, for albums that have already been on CD, it's 12" mixes, b-sides, and rarities or GTFO.

But then again because HJ owns the copyright to his stuff now he might just put out a limited no. of 12" mixes out there directly thru his label/website regardless of where the other albums sell or not. A major label on the other hand would probably not.

The cover for HL looks nice in colour ! I'm wondering what track versions will appear ? On some pressings of HL the long version of What Is Love was used instead of the single version and Why Look For The Key from Dream Into Action is available as an edit (3.23) and a slightly longer mix (3.43).

Since HJ is from the UK, the UK version is what I would consider to be the "proper" album. (There are exceptions to the "country of origin" rule, of course, but this isn't one of them.)

PS. Yeah, the new cover does look cool.

I can definitely understand everyone's disappointment at the fact these remasters will not include any extras. I feel the same way. However, I can't understand why some people are trashing these releases. Afterall, this is not a major label hack job we're talking about. This is the actual artist taking an interest in his past music, overseeing the remastering process, and releasing it through his own channels. Isn't that the quality and care we all wish for when it comes to this business of remastering? I'm happy to buy the album now and the remix compilation later. I have a feeling it will be better quality than the crappy 2-disc deluxe releases we get presented with most of the time. It doesn't send the right message to buy the horrible remasters just because they include a few 12" vinyl rips, but then pass on well remastered albums, put out by artists themselves, because they don't include any extras. Anyway, I'm glad these are coming out and I'm looking forward to hearing them.

Yes a let down, can't understand the logic considering Mr Jones is involved.

Not going to bother

[/quote] You're right. Despite all the initial complaining i bet a lot of us will quietly but the cds or at least one of them to listen to the 'remastered sound'. Dream Into Action was a pioneering album for HJ and my old cd copy now needs to go. Besides i still have some very good vinyl to mp3 rips of several 12" ers. So i can wait for the Remix cd til next year.

Yes the Cd's do sound like shit in fact my CD of Dream Into Action has a click at the start of it must have been a manufacturing fault. I will buy these if they are reasonably priced like say £5.99 any more than that i would have to reconsider.

The click at the start of a song would annoy the heck out of me. There's no excuse for this happening. It should be repressed for that reason alone.

The box set packaging is looking pretty slick.
