Nick Heyward Reissues

I am happy with mine as well though i noticed North of A Miracle is very bass heavy in the mix. Works well with quiet tracks. Have only listened in my car but it really sounds full. The Day That it Rained Forever, you can hear all the instruments well with the strings. That blew my mind.

I got mine as well this week and have done some A/B-ing tonight. I agree, overall there's quite a bit more detail, but it's annoying they've enhanced the bass so much, given it was a very dense and bass-heavy album in the first place. Actually, the treble is quite harsh too. This remaster is also A LOT louder than previous versions - some of the dynamics are badly squashed (I don't know how to do screenshots, but in Sonic Foundry tracks 1, 6 and 10 especially look fairly brickwalled, or at least heavily limited.) Under headphones the whole thing is quite an earbleeder, though it's just about bearable with some EQ-ing. I also noticed a glitch on "Whistle" around 1:18. Though not bad for a modern remaster, I feel this could have turned out a bit better, especially for a recording that bears the stamp of Geoff Emerick.

<br>I have the 2001 Camden North Of A Miracle and the sound on it is excellent. I just hope Cherry Red don't fuck it up.

I just did some checks on the second disc. All the extra studio tracks and 12" versions were obviously mastered by someone who wasn't involved with the mastering of the first disc, since all the tracks sound absolutely fantastic, i.e. no limiting, next to no compression and the whole dynamic range intact. Grrr! I'm really angry now. Wish it was the other way round.

Thanks for the feedback guys but i have decided not buy this new reissue and just to stick with the Camden version i have which sounds great. I wasn't fussed about the extra live stuff and instrumentals anyway and them leaving Laura of it is another shockingly bad decision from Cherry Red yet again.

Laura should have been put on Postcards From Home so maybe it will be on a future reissue of I Love You Avenue to help sell that one.

Personally i'm waiting for the I Love You Avenue re-issue. I thought it was Nick's best solo album. Also a deluxe edition of HC100's Pelican West should be the next project. Don't you think ?

I am waiting too. They have Pelican West Plus released but they never released on CD the Haircut 100 album that did not have Nick on there (paint by Paint)
