Velveteen?

Postby tomman888 » Thu Jun 09, 2011 4:02 am

I just picked up an LP copy of a group called Velveteen...actually its more of an EP.

Anyway, it's not half bad, girl singer, synthy, 1983 iirc.

But a search of the net yields no info on them...Anyone?

Lisa Burns (vocals) and Sal Maida (bass), based in NYC -- although if you have the record, I'm sure you already could see that.

This was their only release. Atlantic literally released half the EP as singles, including the standout "Wild Rain," but nothing took off.

I must agree that 'Wild Rain' is the standout track for me from this Atlantic mini album. also, Nightline is a quality single in its own right.

I posted this because they strike me as a group who couldve been huge but something happened . ? I dunno.

WLIR played them back in the day quite a bit.I picked up their EP back in the 80's and thought that the lead singer's vocals sounded quite a bit like Chrissie Hynde, which is never a bad thing.I was also wondering the same thing why there is nothing about this band at all on the net anywhere? maybe the reason why Velveteen didn't get very far as a band is because they sounded too much like The Pretenders, both vocally, and also musically too?
