The band's best loved album from 1985 gets a 2 disc remastered treatment complete with b sides and remixes. Out next month.

Is this put out by the label or the band? I tend to prefer the band's early output on Y Records...and I love the Jam Science LP, the original version on Y Records.

How about a CD issue for Jam Science? Still unavailable after all these years...

It's on Lemon whic is part of Cherry Red , so fingers crossed it'll sound alright - the old CD issue didn't have much bass, so a decent remaster may add a bit of punch to it.

p.s. i'm aware you can 'turn up the bass' but somehow that's not the same.

Hot damn...this is awesome news![8D] But I agree, reissue Care and Jam Science too with all the mixes, b-sides and demos (like the rare Dutch version of Jam Science).

I really have to tip my hat to Cherry Red on a lot of things...they are listening to what the fans want and are delivering the releases that we never thought we would see.

For them, its all about acquiring the licensing rights from labels who clearly aren't interested in cult reissues.

Cherry Red in recent years has scored Peter Murphy, Icicle Works, Flock Of Seagulls and now Shriekback among others, so I suspect we will be getting Jam Science, Tench and Care before long...Cherry Red is all about putting out, where possible, entire recorded or label outputs from bands...I suspect we will eventually get all of Shriekback and Peter Murphy's back catalogues in the coming months.

And yes, agreed...would love an expanded Jam Science featuring both the Band version (Arista) and the original raw version (Y Records) plus singles/B-sides/12" versions...

Another vote for Jam Science, but the original CD of Oil & Gold CD sounds shit so I'll be delighted if this is a decent remaster.

The bonus tracks are disappointing to me. Looks like all of the era-remixes (which have long been available elsewhere) and the b-sides are all live stuff. This is my favorite Shriekback album, and I was hoping for some stuff I haven't heard before, and perhaps some demos. Oh well...

Hmm.. must admit I haven't heard Fish Below The Ice (Dance Mix). Has it ever been on CD?

Hopefully at least the remastering is good

I have the vinyl version of the Y Records 'Jam Science' recorded in lossless format on computers' hard-drive. I think it's one of the best releases of Shriekback. The album is one style in opposition compared to the Arista 'Jam Science' which in reality is only a compilation of the original Jam Science (with some new dubs of the earlier Jam Science songs) and the German vinyl album release of 'Knowledge, Power, Truth and Sex'.

Hello ed4ad, just e-mail me, maybe we can work something out.
Working hard right now to manually remove the cracks and pops from 'Knowledge, Power, truth and sex.'

Yeah, I had never heard Fish Below The Ice (Dance Mix) either...anybody know where this originates from? I finally got my copy and am listening to this track now and it's equal parts awesome/horrible. Think I prefer the Plankton Enriched Mix overall, but that might because I know it better.

P.S. It's laughable they attemtped to reproduc the original album lyrics in the cd booklet, it was damn hard to try and read them in 12" x 12" format, it's impossible in this tiny form.

Can anyone comment on the sound quality, is it much of an improvement on the original cd??

I don't know if the album is an improvement--it sounds fine to my non-audiophile ears--but some of the bonus tracks are sourced from vinyl; it's most obvious on "Lined Up."
