New Wave Supergroup(s) You Never Got into

If I might add to i_like_lectric_motor's post above, I don't think any supergoups have been mentioned yet. Here's a Wikipedia quote:

"In the late 1960s, the term supergroup was coined to describe "a rock music group whose performers are already famous from having performed individually or in other groups."[1][2] In some cases, an act will later be referred to as a supergroup when multiple members from said group end up securing individual fame later on. Supergroups are often short-lived, lasting only for an album or two, although this is not always the case..."

Big Audio Dynamite. I liked maybe 1 or 2 songs but I don't think you could pay me to sit through an entire album.

Havana 3 A.M. I didn't even like that much.

And if we're branching out past new wave and into hard rock, the Hagar, Schon, Aaronson, Shrieve record is one of the worst albums I have ever listened to.

Correcto. Like maybe Passengers, which I believe was members of U2 plus Brian Eno and Luciano Pavarotti. Electronic is another good example: Johnny Marr + Barney Sumner + Neil Tennant.

I've never really gotten into either The Smiths or OMD. But my musical taste is always expanding and involving, just recently have I begun to really explore more Simple Minds than the US hits and realizing they're actually quite good.

When you say "Supergroup" I thought of taking a Girlfriend to see POWER STATION at Jones Beach. She was a Duranie, and I figured...

1. It would be cool to see Robert Palmer sing live.
2. Tony Thompson is a great drummer.
3. The BONGOS ae opening up...cool, one good band on the bill!

What I got was...

1. Palmer bowed out of the tour, leaving Michael DesBarres to be Lead screecher (ruining a cover of "Some Guys Have All the Luck," which was inexplicabloy left in the setlist after palmer's departure.

2. Thompson was playing along with a cheesy prerecorded track most of the night.

3. The Bongos nearly got booed off the stage by 16 year old girls wanting to see John Taylor immediately.

For my answer, Duran, Depeche, Spandau Ballet, Wham, Kajagoogoo.

Travelling Wilburys
Power Station
The Highwaymen
The Firm

The defenition of a super group is a group hose performers are already famous from having performed individually or in other groups.

Simple !, it's not groups that are super !!![:p]

I like Electronic WAY better than the Smiths, quite a bit better than New Order, and about on par with Pet Shop Boys.

ick. I couldn't STAND this group (and I was a Duranimal !). Perfect example of guys who thought they were awesome and thought it would be cool to get together and jam, and then record the results for all posterity. Like some kind of musical fantasy league gone horribly wrong.

This is a supergroup conversation so most of the bands mentioned don't even count. Electronic is hands down one of the greatest supergroups of all time.

The current Vince Clark / Martin Gore collaboration will hopefully yield highly favorable results.

Anybody remember this gem?
