Way too loud, it's unbelievable.

Yep. Totally destroyed the dynamics of the music. Didn't care much for the multi-artist comps but I did give in to the OMD. To undo the compression, one may take the WAV files, normalize to about 60% and then artificially amplify the original peaks. It's time-consuming and a pain[xx(]

You just wonder if Blank & Jones are doing this deliberately mastering them way too loud[?] I have had discussions about these compilations on other forums and some people have said there is nothing wrong with the sound on them which i find bizarre[:0]

I had left comments on the so80s Facebook page about the mastering, requesting that it not be so loud and harsh. I do think that overall so80s 5 is not as loud as the previous 4 volumes. It's like they brought the harshness down just a tad. Maybe it's just my imagination though? Not all songs sound bad on these volumes. Some actually benefit from this highly compressed mastering. Most other tracks are simply too loud. You know that it's bad when you can hear the distortion.

Back to the tracklisting ... I like it. Some nice gems on volume 6. Interesting to note that the CDs are now running over 80 minutes again (volume 5 had none of the 3 CDs running over 80 minutes, whereas the previous 4 volumes did). I thought that the maximum capacity for a CD is 80 minutes (roughly). How are these CDs running nearly 90 minutes? Does anyone know?

Wow. There are some great selections in this volume. Can't wait.

I really hope Blank & Jones are considering an Alphaville collection.

I have been scouring the net to see if i could download it to see what the quality is like but there is no sign of it which is unusual.

Try filetram.com. I downloaded it yestrday and it wasnt too bad. The loudness factor still exists but not as bad as some of the other volumes.

I managed to get it elsewhere thanks for the link though omar. Still sounding loud but not as harsh as previous volumes. If they mastered these at a proper level i would probably buy these but i don't want my speakers to blow up. Interestingly the mixed disc lasts for just over 80 minutes and the two unmixed ones last for 89 minutes each.
