Kim Wilde Snapshots -- not bad

I really expected a disaster when I heard Kim was doing a cover versions album of new wave songs (I wasn't a big fan of Berlin's attempt at the same thing). But actually, there aren't many songs with which I'm familiar, and other than attempting Erasure's "A Little Respect", which is kind of untouchable IMO, she does pretty fun new electro pop versions of familiar and not so familiar songs. Some well-known tracks include The Cars' Just What I Needed, The Cure's In Between Days, Black's Wonderful Life (I prefer the Tina Cousins' version from a few years back), a cover of Tracey Ullman's cover They Don't Know, and the Buzzcocks/FYC Ever Fallen In Love. She even takes a mellow stab at Dionne Warwick's Anyone Who Had a Heart.

Lost interest in her. Covering others, covering herself, what's next, a compilation of best cover songs? Still not sure how she manages to keep her success in Germany.

Just had a listen to the excerpt up of the album on YouTube and it is horrible. It's the same beat and sound where everything is turned up to eleven and kills everything subtle in the song (Everyone Who's Had a Heart and Wonderful Life are cases in point).

This is one of those hits compilations you see in a pound shop where the names of the songs are writ large and the name of the singer is in tiny writing. Sadly it does seem that Kim is really desperate enough to release drek like this.

She still seems to be big in Germany and she thinks she's doing great stuff with the new album. I was desperatly trying with the previous one, not this time.
