That's got nothing on the G.G. Allin inspired Donald Duck t-shirt they put out last year.

Proof positive that Peter Hook will whore out the rotting corpse of Joy Division to the highest bidder.

Actually the band complained, as did fans, and Disney has removed the item. Although, legally, Disney did not infringe on any copyright.

Have to say I'm disappointed that Disney's backbone would disappear so quickly over it, they usually don't mind riding roughshod and in this particular case they would be doing it to no one of importance.

The interesting thing to me me as well id that when Disney originally started selling their "electronic music" Mickey Mouse shirt, the description mentioned it was inspired by Kraftwerk. A few days later, they removed that reference.

If there's no copyright infringement, then Disney couldve easily told Hooky and fans to fuck off, and continued selling the shirts. I think Hooky/Sumner and the rest still own all copyrights trademarks etc for JD/NO.

Look at it this way, if someone were to release a shirt with the Disney/Mickey logo on it, you can best bet Disney would sue the shit out of them. It's an iconic album cover, Disney knows what it's doing....but like I said, if Hooky doesnt own it, what would be the need for Disney to "suddenly" remove it? it would be free open property for all to profit from. YOU could do the same thing, and probably get paid for it.
