<br>Its strange that how many artists from the 80s have a lot of 7" edits unreleased . Werent singles sales driven by the 7" format mostly ?

It's exactly what springs to mind if you think about it at the time.
I can remember I bought a lot of vinyl singles in the 80's.

What I think happened was that the CD was coming to the stores. Around 1983 the only CDs that were released were albums. When the CD singles came in a couple of years later, the music industry completely missed out on several important 7" single edits from the first part of the 80's. They just went with the charts from the start of the CD single. What was very often used on those CD singles at that particular time were the album versions or (in some cases unknown) remixes. A typical band that was 'victimized' because of this was AFOS.

Or that when cd singles arrived, the casual music buyer wanted just the one track or the ext. mix and didn't really care about whether it was a 7" or not.
