Chromeo

Discussions about the new generations of bands influenced by '80s New Wave and Postpunk

Chromeo

Just got his second album (Fancy Footwork), after hearing one of his singles and I am hooked on it. It is not influenced by eighties music, it is absolutely drenched in it. This seriously could have been made in 1986. As far as I can hear, none of the sounds in this album are contemporary. Good lyric writing too. I would highly recommend this guy to anyone who likes synthpop. An 80's album made with todays technology never sounded so good!.

I bought this last summer -- I have enjoyed it as a guilty pleasure. Fun hooks, tongue-in-cheek humor, and some great eighties funk style sounds. FWIW I think Chromeo is a Montreal duo. I'd also recommend it if you're a fan of eighties funk/R&B.

Hi mojowkn.

I'm told it's electro-funk or something. 'm not familiar with this "genre", hence my uninitiated description above. I love the hell out of this music though. Can you recommend either new or 80's bands that sound like this? Cheers.

It's like SOS Band, Zapp, The Time, Newcleus and Hall & Oates had a kid.

I discovered Chromeo thanks to an episode of Yo Gabba Gabba, of all things. I've gotten a few of their songs and like them. There's some old school synthpop/funk going on there. Good stuff.
