What always confused me was the different versions of Secret Wish, the original LP, 80's CD and 90's CD all seem to have different track lists and mixes. What is the "last word"? I think it is missing from my mid 90's CD version of it, which otherwise sounds very good.

The Last Word is just the bit with Suzanne talking, which is basically part of Strength to Dream. Or maybe it is the other way around, with The Last Word being the instrumental, and Strength to Dream the Suzanne bit.

"What always confused me was the different versions of Secret Wish, the original LP, 80's CD and 90's CD all seem to have different track lists and mixes."

I think the 90s CD went back to the original vinyl tracklist, whereas the original (UK) CD had the different mixes, which ZTT liked to do.

I really regret not buying the DE digipak releases from the late 90s, or early 2000, when I had the chance.

On a side note, someone shared FLACs of the unreleased 200x album at Demonoid. I've verified using AuCDtect that they are from CD-DA source, except for the crappy remix of No Return, which sounds like a fan edit. CD2 seems to be bits and pieces collected together, anyhow.

I updated my Propaganda discography now to include the 2-CD of Secret Wish, fortunately there were info on recording dates for some of the extra tracks.

Jonas, what about the 90's UK version of Secret Wish? It is different to the original 80's CD.

http://www.discogs.com/Propaganda-A-Sec ... ase/219147

This is the one I have and it seems to be the most common one available in ebay, charity stores etc

Thanks humanracer and moni, I have now added those albums as well. In order to minimize the confusion I placed the 1998 CD version with the original vinyl LP version (as it was a reissue of the vinyl LP, not the 1985 CD) and the 1985 & 2010 Cd versions together. It's not complete, but we're getting closer to the truth. Some questions remain, as you can see in my question marks:

Tracks 4 & 6 on the 1998 CD, are they same as 12 & 13 on the 2010 2-CD? If so, it seems that track 4 and 12 on the 2-Cd are the same, and tracks 6 & 13! I don't hear a lot of difference, but many ears are better than two.

A detail: what's the "correct spelling" - P machinery, p: machinery, P:Machinery? Etc?

I also need to add the CD+DVD version of OUTSIDE WORLD, plus this http://www.discogs.com/Andreas-Thein--Ralf-Dörper-M-The-Secret-Tapes-Of-Dr-Mabuse/release/335929

Over to the experts! /JW

I pre-ordered mine now from wowhd.com
I think they are the cheapest right now ($10.19 incl shipping) as they give 15% off everything this weekend. Just a tip, I don't get paid for saying this. I just don't always trust their release dates, they used to be cdwow who had some delivery problems (supplier delays) at times. But I think this close to the release date they will be on time. /JW

So to summarise:

1.The original LP version was released on CD in the US in the 80's and in the UK in 1998. So I guess this is also known as the "us version" to some. Probably this is the "purest" version of the album. Dr Mabuse is the 1st life mix.

2.The original UK and German CD is different to the above LP mix. Dream Within A Dream is Longer. Jewel is longer (the cut rough mix). Duel has been remixed. P machinery is the single mix not album mix. Dr Mabuse is the testament mix with strength to dream tacked on at the end. Dr Mabuse is also the last track rather than third from last.

3.In 1994 the CD was reissued in the UK for the 10th anniversary. I have this CD too so it must be common. This seems to be identical to the LP mix but with the rough cut of Jewel (as on the CD version) instead of the normal LP mix.

4.The Japanese CD is essentially the LP version with bonus tracks at the end including femme fatale.

5.There is an unconfirmed Japan release that seems to follow the CD version.

I don't have the deluxe version but if the supposed vinyl versions are just repeats of the versions found on the "cd mix" then the cd is useless. Better just to buy the two original versions.

Jonas, essentially what you are asking (and what we need to find out) is
1.What are the differences between the cd remix and normal version of Duel.

2.What are the differences between the single and album versions of P machinery.

If there isn't much difference then that could be why the tracks sound the same.

Yes, that's what I'm asking. I do have the deluxe 2-CD, but the extra tracks on CD 1 are called "the analogue versions". I don't know how certain the compiler(s) were, if they had access to different master tapes that stated the tracks were different. But they are the same duration, and to me sound similar. It may be that they were remixed only slightly. /JW
