Ministry - With Sympathy - New re-issue news

Postby Jeffrey » Fri Aug 17, 2012 12:08 am

Hey profil,

Thanks for your input concerning this release. I have ordered it and I am so extremely psyched about the "Revenge" remix!! Gosh, I love this album. And as mentioned ad nauseum by me throughout these forums, I sure wish Alain continued along the same vein as this album. It was synth-funk, but it had that aggro posturing which I adored. That, and Alain's faux british accent, and those dance floor intricate bass lines, made this one of my favorite New Wave records of all time. Even if Alain were to perform these tracks again, it wouldn't be the same. His voice is ruined, like Whitney Houston's. Like those recent remakes of his classic "Halloween" track. Too glutteral and devoid the fun and quirkiness of the classic track.

I lament that they couldn't include every mix of the singles. Maybe, "Retro: Active" could include these in future volumes. Or, like I've stated above, Chris Cox's "Sex Slave Edit" of "Work For Love."

I do hope that Alain does make profit off this album re-release. He deserves it, even though he hates this album. Still, as the principle song writer, he should collect royalties. The man is a genius!! Where would the current crop of Screamo musicians be without Al? Or the industrialists? The man has major talents (even though some of the later stuff I couldn't stand).

In conclusion, I love this LP and I'm thankful that it is here for us to enjoy all over again with this unreleased "Revenge" remix.

Hey Sean,

What DJ cd was there a remix version of Ministry - Revenge?

How is the remix version of Revenge on this current reissue?

Thank You

It was a mistake Synthpopfan. [8D] "Revenge" was not the song that I thought was on a remix service cd. I don't believe "Revenge" was ever remixed before this current reissue. As for the mix on this cd, I would say that the mix alone makes the cd worth buying. [:)]

The only "official" dj remixes of Ministry songs from this album I know are these:

> Effigy (I'm Not An) Remix by Glenn Cattanach 5:23
from Hot Tracks / The Edge Level 1
http://www.discogs.com/Various-The-Edge ... se/1022414

> Work For Love Remix by Chris Cox 6:34
from Hot Tracks / 15th Anniversary Collectors Edition (Part 1)
http://www.discogs.com/Various-15th-Ann ... se/1273721

> I Wanted To Tell Her (Cold Trax Mix) Remix by John M. Pillin Jr. 6:00
from Art of Mix / Ultra Hot Razor Disc 2
http://www.discogs.com/Various-Ultra-Ho ... ase/931933

I like especially both mixes by Hot Tracks .

Cheers,

In case there's any confusion as to what the bonus tracks are based on this thread (because I was confused), You get "A Walk in the Park", the original 12" mix of "I Wanted to Tell Her" that runs 7:06 (the album mix is still the definitive best mix IMO), and the mystery remix of "Revenge." While it's cool to have an extended version of Revenge, it really pales in comparison to the album version. The rhythm track is much more stomp heavy rather than driving, causing the feel of the song to drag. And it really is a shame they didn't include the original 12" mix of Work for Love. But hey, the CD has been rereleased and has bonus tracks we wanted, so as someone else said, maybe 12"/80s or Retro Active will dig up that song.

As for the booklet, it is pretty much the same exact booklet that came with the original release of the CD decades ago. Same front and back as the album (with the bonus tracks included on the back cover track list), and inside is just the single black and white photo of the guys on the left with the liner notes for each song next to it and on the facing page. However, there is absolutely NO mention of the bonus tracks on the inside, so we don't get any credits for remixers, song lengths, etc.

Having worked in Prepress/Graphics for about twenty years now, I can tell you that it is SHEER LAZINESS to just scan and reprint a CD/Album cover. With any halftone pattern in the original, all you are doing is degrading the image and muddying up things. With a minimal amount of Photoshop/Illustrator/Indesign skills, you could crank out a much cleaner, sharper and more up-to-date cover in less than two hours.

Cost-cutting at every corner....

Anybody heard of the track "Wait" ever being re-issued on CD? Was that a b-side, or just a never-released track? The copy I have of it is horrible, but I really enjoy it!

Never released track. Would be cool if it was officially released one day. If I remember correctly, someone at www.prongs.org/ministry received a tape from a former Ministry member that included that track. Tape also included a demo version of Everyday Is Halloween. The site had the tracks posted for a bit and that's how they got out.

Very cool! Sadly, I don't think it'll ever see a high-quality release. :(
