NAKED EYES "Burning Bridges" on CD in UK 26 Nov

It seems Tony Mansfield's own 12" Version of "Always Something" is available on this rare CD set http://www.discogs.com/buy/CD/Various-H ... ev=bp_titl

I don't have it and could not find any place to download it. But at least it's out there...

Thanks for the info. Much appreciated. Sadly, this compilation is out of print and fetching quite a bit ... too much for me to justify spending money in order to purchase, even at used prices ($50+). Oh well. I guess that we'll have to wait again for another rare CD appearance. Hopefully it won't take years for that to happen. [V]

Here's hoping that Rodeo Media will feature it on one of their future volumes of "Dance Classics" ... maybe a future "Pop Edition" volume? It's just a shame that we didn't get it on this reissue considering that we got both extended mixes of "Promises Promises". I know that there's only so much room, but those mixes of "Promises Promises" have already been made available on CD ("Everything And More"), which, again, is out of print, too, and fetching ridiculous amounts of money. I suppose that everyone cannot be pleased, or maybe it was more so an issue of having trouble finding the original masters to the Tony Mansfield Extended Version.

I don't know why Pete chose those specific tracks. I did tell him about which track "fans" would miss if not included, which ones have not been on CD so far etc. It may be a question of finding master tapes, or a question of Pete after listening through the versions preferred these.

I have tried to do a google search for "hardest Hits 2 blog" but the few blogs that "had" it also had old/non-functional links, and the "legal" MP3 sites did not have that track either. I guess you can find it on youtube but those audio tracks are usually compressed a lot of from vinyl. /JW

The fact this release is happening on Cherry Red is proof they're actually listening to fan requests...I requested this along with Fuel For The Fire so I have to presume that Fuel will be reissued next year.

Thanks Cherry Red for listening and giving us something we want.

Thanks for making the suggestion to Pete, regardless. Yeah, the 6:17 Tony Mansfield Extended Version is on YouTube, but the quality is not so good. I just sent an e-mail to Rodeo Media (rodeomedia.nl), suggesting "Always Something There To Remind Me [Tony Mansfield Extended Version]" (6:17), specifically asking for this version over the Jellybean American Remix for a future Dance Classics Pop Edition volume.

OK this is kind of a weird question, but I am curious about the sleeve artwork for "Burning Bridges". Since I am in the USA, I have always been used to the American-ized version of the album which was re-titled "Naked Eyes". The US album's artwork was also changed to the stunning painting of the eyes which I've always loved. When I learned of the UK release many years later, I remember thinking the UK artwork was nowhere as impressive and to this day I have no idea what exactly is depicted in it! From a contemporary perspective, it looks like a laptop with a picture of a geisha holding a fan, but since this was 1982, I think it's safe to assume it's not a laptop lol. Can anyone explain what it is? All photos I've found online are too small to really get a good look.

I also thought about a laptop! Some claim to have seen people using cell phones in old black and white films (= time warps!).

I managed to find Hardest Hits Vol 2 at 14,95 Euro (sic!) here, NEW!
http://amzn.to/QMVqhR

It said 2 copies left, not sure about that though, but maybe 1 left (after I ordered one). I can't believe Amazon in Germany had 2 copies left of a super rare Canadian Cd from 1992. That's 20 years ago! And New! At 15 Euro. Just a tip.....

I, too, was thinking of a laptop when I saw the cover. So ahead of its time. [:p]

Very shocking that Amazon Germany has copies of that compilation left! Thanks for the info... maybe I'll grab a copy. I received a response from Rodeo Media about my request for the Tony Mansfield Extended Version to be featured on a future volume of Dance Classics - Pop Edition: "Hi Jason, thanks for sending the suggestions, we will see what we can do!"

So, here's hoping that it can be licensed.

Just in case you are still interested and the original cd has not reached destiny... here's the 'Always...' long version as featured in the Hardest Hits Vol. 2 comp.:

That is very kind of you. Thank you. However, not to sound picky, but I'll still be looking for a lossless file. :)

320 kbps is as near as lossless as you can get without it actually being lossless in theory. WAV is lossless, and the more recent invention FLAC is supposed to be too, even though it's half size compared to WAV. Thanks for sharing it. It's one of the most difficult albums to find online I have ever experienced, as all "blogs" had deleted links to it, and no MP3 pay site had it. So anyone who considers byuing the CD, don't hesitate. /JW

I'm very picky and collect only lossless files now (WAV, FLAC, APE, etc.) Honestly, I don't even like MP3 ... 320 kbps is very good, but it's not what I look for when downloading. Still, not to sound ungrateful, I'll take what was offered. [:D] I actually prefer CD, but I will happily download and pay for it if it's lossless.

I remember I had a cassette of the Canadian release of the NAKED EYES album and the version of "Always Something There" began without drums – it started simply with the explosion and the church bells, and the drums didn't kick in until the first verse began. Does anyone else remember hearing this version? With the hundreds of compilations out there containing this song, I would have thought that version would show up at least once, but it hasn't. Anyone have any information about this?

JT, based on your description, you are referring to the version featured in the promo video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zMAe31FFHbo Take a look/listen there. Most compilations feature the version with the drums intro, as you pointed out. This version usually clocks in around 3:40/3:41. The version featured in the promo video (which runs shorter at 3:21) has featured on a few compilations in a longer version of 3:36. This version can be found on the following compilations (as I have them both):

-Complete Eighties (5-CD box set released by EMI Australia, 2005). http://www.discogs.com/Various-Complete ... ase/810041
-Countdown One Hit Wonders 2 (2008 3-CD set released by ABC Music/Liberation Music Australia). http://www.discogs.com/Various-Countdow ... se/1518941

Note that both compilations come from Australia, so, although I'm not certain, I'm guessing that any '80s compilation out of Australia will feature this 3:36 version since EMI Australia seems to have this version available for licensing. There's also "101 80s Hits" released by EMI Australia (2008) and "Complete Eighties" (a 2010 5-CD box set with a different track listing/packaging than listed above, released via EMI Australia).

Let me know if you need this version, and I'll see what I can do. :)

Also, if anyone knows the official name of this version, please do tell. Is it the original version? Or, is it simply an alternate version released in certain territories?

That is the version on my 45 which says it is mixed by Jellybean so maybe it's called the Jellybean single mix or the Jellybean 7" mix.

See through faded, super jaded and out of my mind
