RIP 101.9 WRXP yet again...

The last commercial radio station in NY to carry on the tradition of WLIR dies a death in November. As you may recall, WRXP was blown out 2 years ago in favor of a horrible format change....News For Women. "Do you like chocolate?" "Does your man please you?" It was a ghastly idea and downright insulting to women and was wisely 86'd.

Suddenly WRXP was back on again, an air staff was hired and....6 months later..it's all over for the second time. The station's been bought by CBS which is moving it's AM station WFAN to the 101.9 FM frequency (in a move eerily similar to what happened to WLIR).

Not a great loss, as the new format was pretty 90s Rock focused. I was hoping they'd bring back Matt Pinfield, and add other New York DJ's with leeway to play what they want, but alas, it was a lot of Tonic and Local H with robot announcers, nowhere close to a "WLIR successor!"

I agree that the station is geared to 90's alternative but it is great to hear some new alternative that no one else plays in New York on the radio. I don't know why they would but talk radio on the FM dial here but I hope it fails terribly.

I have a feeling you'll be seeing more AM talk stations jumping to FM. The audience for listening to music on the radio has dwindled so much in recent years with iPods, etc I'm surprised there's as much of it on the radio as there is. Certainly Generation Y and Z have probably never turned on a radio in their lives.
