I hope the new Adam Ant album is worthwhile. Released 1/21/13
http://www.recordstore.co.uk/recordstor ... Adam%2BAnt

Pop icon Adam Ant is making his eagerly-awaited comeback with his first album and single in 17 years, a world tour and a film. The national treasure, who rose to fame as lead singer of post-punk group Adam and the Ants in the early 80s, before embarking on a hit solo career, earned ten UK top ten hits - including three number ones - and became a figurehead for the New Romantic movement in the UK.

After overcoming a well-documented battle with depression and bi-polar disorder, the London legend has finally bounced back with the eagerly-awaited album - Adam Ant is The Blueblack Hussar In Marrying The Gunner's Daughter.

His first single in 17 years, Cool Zombie will be fully released on November 19th - and the album will be released in on Monday 21st January.

Yeah i have Zombie. Pretty good although certainly a slow-burner. I've had another two tracks from the album for about 18 month although probably only in demo-form i guess. I met him in the street twice in 2010 and saw him live three times that year. He confirmed to me that 'Blueback Hassar' would be released in a few weeks back then! He was also slaughtering Bono and Liam Gallagher lol calling them c**ts! Then in 2011 he stated a single in next few weeks to a radio station and even Record Collector listed it as coming out (March 2010) about six weeks later in April 2010! This time it really is happening it seems. I'm seeing him again soon

I kind of know where he's coming from though...

I would consider myself a major Ant fan, having bought KOTWF back in 1980 on 7" and collected all of Adam's releases since then. I also have the fab Redux box set that Columbia excelled themselves on a few years back - now THAT's how to do remasters!!

However I last saw him live on the 'Wonderful' tour in Shepherds Bush in 1995, and it was utterly superb - a wall of sound band with Marco and two drummers (including Dave Barbe!). Adam looked / sounded incredible with jet-black hair, a long brown leather coat, a set list to die for and every inch the star.

It's been nearly 15 years since this (!) and I for one have been less than impressed with his performances captured on YouTube. It just all seems a little ragged around the edges, and has lost some of the structure and panache...

The demo of 'Tough Men Hard Blokes' (if that's what it's called) on the website was truly awful - the worst kind of pub rock that you'd run a mile to escape; I only hope that Boz Boorer's input in the studio has taken the music back to a level of previous releases such as Vive Le Rock, Dirk Wears White Sox etc.

I will definitely buy the new album in February, but at this point in time I can't say that I hold any high hopes for the music within. I sincerely hope that I am 100% wrong on this :-))

Agreed with some of your comments Thorpy2112 but i have to disagree on many too. I too saw him on the 'Wonderful' tour which was actually April 1995 (some 17 1/2 years ago). I loved it but will confess can't remember just how good it was. I am also a fan of Boz Boorer and friends with him on Facebook (i was honoured when he used one of my Adam Ant concert pictures with him in it from 2010 as his profile picture lol). Reports are from the latest tour (started yesterday) that it is indeed excellent. Tight band. Some of the gigs from 2010 were really good but others not so as Adam obviously not in a good place. There's been two drummers for at least the last 12 months BTW. The new single is good although a VERY slow-burner. Those two demos that you are talking about were only ok i must admit. 'Hard man tough blokes' and 'Punkyoungirl'. The 'b' side of the new single is pretty poor to say the least. The new album is due January and i don't think it will be delayed this time. A full 16 track or so track list has been revealed this week. I think that i'm right in saying that the two tracks mentioned above are included so make of that what you will. Oh and you are spot on about 'Redux'. That was indeed awesome. One track from that set namely 'Who's a goofy bunny'? appears on the new album as promised some time ago when Malcolm McLaren died.

"Cool Zombie" still hasn't grown on me -- and, honestly, I'm trying! -- but, geez, that photo on the single isn't doing him any favors.

Apparently this is number 8 in the U.K. midweek including a number 3 yesterday. I'm amazed! Nowhere near as good IMHO as his last, Wonderful in 1995 which only made U.K. number 24. In fact this could / will be his biggest hit album since Friend or foe in 1982 (U.K. number 5) so well done to the fans. Considering those tossers at Tesco couldn't even buy it in makes this 'hit' even more amazing. It's a real bunch of hit and miss tracks IMHO. I'm loving Cool Zombie, Vince Taylor and Cradle your hatred. Only played it three times so far apart from Zombie (the single) and Hardmentoughblokes plus Punkyoungirl both of which i've had since 2011 and both of which sound very demo-ey

Expecting my copy from Amazon today (snow permitting) having traipsed around my local stores (as well as Sister Ray in London) on Monday and Tuesday trying to find a single copy in stock...no joy.

From what I've heard on the Amazon preview there is some real filler which could easily have been left as demos instead of making it a 17 track album; when it works however it's great - such as Marrying The Gunner's Daughter / Cool Zombie / Shrink / Vince Taylor. Just fantastic to have him back with a new album after so many years and false starts.

Wahey! That's brilliant! Adam Ant is rocking again! Can't wait for the week end chart now at all! "Wonderful" was a great record despite only making UK #24.
Those tossers at Tesco should buy it now immediately, right on! But if they don't, that wouldn't surprise me at all. The "X-Factor" rubbish is still more attractive, isn't it? [xx(]

Totally agree Sensoria. I'm looking forward to the chart on Sunday too and hope Ant keeps his top 10 placing at least! Oh and 'Wonderful' is my personal favourite album. I told him so too at a book signing (his Autobiography) about 2005. I've probably mentioned this before too but i met him in the street twice in London in 2010/2011 (same place actually which was near his home). Funny looking back but he told me that this album will be in a couple of months back then. He also slagged off Bono and Liam Gallagher on these meetings using a certain C word to describe then both. He was very bitter. Understandable of course!

And so he made it only #25 which really disappointed me as the album got very high during the midweek. I wouldn't have been disappointed as much if the album didn't get as high during the midweek. But then again, who cares about the charts nowadays at all? The charts made some sense up to the mid '80s when music was far less business oriented.
"Wonderful" is my personal favourite album of his too. Very classy.
I like some stuff both, U2 and Oasis, have done but their vast media presence makes me sick.
Adam Ant even said he cherishes today's female singers like Gwen Stefani, Shirley Manson, Katy Perry and Lady GaGa more than most blokes who according to him look like they've been just crawled out of bed with a dose of crabs in the latest Classic Pop Magazine issue. Ha ha.
FYI, those tossers at Tesco are considering to buy the HMV stores now. Excellent! That's just what we needed! [xx(] ...I pray it won't happen.

Yeah i noticed that number 25. Was too disappointed to comment! Couldn't believe that after number 3 on Tuesday alone. What happened? Lol Tesco buy HMV. That's a new one on me. As long as they keep it far different from Tesco's musical selection then it could work.
