My extended mixes collection

Postby Silvina Hernandez » Thu Dec 20, 2012 7:34 am

This is the list of all the 12 inch singles I have on my i pod (I'm planning on expand it with the help of soulseek). In most cases I like the 7 inch version better but it's worth having these anyway.
Altered Images- Don't Talk To Me About Love
Altered Images- Bring Me Closer (better than the original)
Altered Images- I Could Be Happy (fantastic, I searched for it for ages and I finally found it on soulseek)
Altered Images- Pinky Blue
Fiction Factory- Feels Like Heaven
Fiction Factory- No Time
Communards- Tomorrow
Communards- Disenchanted
Madness- Our House (my favourite one, almost as good as the 7 inch)
Madness- Sweetest Girl- I don't like that much as it is a mix almost identical to the original.
New Order- The Perfect Kiss (my other favourite)
New Order- Bizarre Love Triangle
New Order- Thieves Like Us (a bit boring)
Pet Shop Boys- West End Girls (It has grown on me and now I love it)
Talk Talk- It's My Life
Talk Talk- Living In Another World
The Human League- The Lebanon
Yazoo- Situation (a bit boring)
Heaven 17- Trouble & Crushed By The Wheels Of Industry

PLEASE COMMENT AS I'D LOVE TO HEAR YOUR OPINIONS

Even though I will have to admit I'm not the biggest techno fan in the world, Depeche Mode has some great remixes.

> Talk Talk- It's My Life

I hope this is the WAY superior US remix. If it has the lyrics, with extra music at the end, then it is the US version. The UK 12" has no lyrics (or very few ... can't remember off the top of my head).

Landscape - Back on Your Heads is a great piece of atmospheric music.

Yes, it does has extra music at the end so it's the US reamix then. Although it never matches the quality of the 7 inch (which I love and, in my opinion, it's one of the greatest new wave songs) it's quite good.
Sadly, I first came to know the No Doubt version (because I was listening to that band a lot at that time). But then once, 3 years ago, I heard original on the radio and I thought it was brilliant and way better than the ND version. So, I immediatly dowloaded it and the next day I listened to it on repeat on my i pod on my way to my math class. After a few months of not listening to it I kinda rediscovered it and now listen to it almost on a daily basis and I consider it one of my favourite songs.

A year and a half ago and for a short time I became a bit obsessed about Fiction Factory. Of course I already knew Feels Like Heaven as I have heard it a lot on the radio and it is even on a CD compilation of my dads but I never felt curious enough to go further. Until last year, when I came across the video for that song and I felt intrigued by lead singer Kevin Patterson. So then I started to download every song of theirs I could find, including this one. What is funny is that this 12 inch mix it is only copy of the song I could find on the Ares downloading site, so I have never heard the 7 inch, which, I have just realized, must on Youtube. Once my obsession passed, I have listened to the song just a few times and now that I have several 12 inch mixes in my collection, I have realized that this is my least favourite one. Also, it is my least favourite song by Fiction Factory, but that does not mean it is a bad song.

I enjoyed their first album and both 'Heart' and 'Ghost of Love' should of been hits. Their second album was nowhere near as good, 'Standing on Top of the World' was the best of an average bunch.

Ghost of Love & All Or Nothing should both have been huge hits. Ghost of Love was actually issued twice in the UK, with different 12" mixes each time.

Feels Like Heaven is one of my favourite songs of all time, although I'm not as keen on the 12" version. There is a 'blue mix' of Feels Like Heaven that one of the DJ subscription services put out in the 80's - it's different to but not an improvement on the 7"/album version.

IS THAT THE TWELVE INCH MIX ? Out late 2010 www.robgrillo.co.uk

Ghost Of Love & All Or Nothing are my favourite songs by Fiction Factory (although I haven't heard them in a while as I've been into ohter stuff lately) after Feels Like Heaven and, yes, I agree with you, both should have been hits. Everything about them is perfect but I really love Kevin Patterson's vocals, which are usually stunning. Now I'd love to hear the 12" versions of both songs (I guess I can download them from soulseek).
Everyone has the right to have an opinion but I think that the 12" of Feels Like Heaven is great. But, yes, the 7" is even better (I usually prefer 7" mixes over 12" mixes).

I've got a few of the songs from the first album on mp3 and all of them are good or great (so I think I should download the rest of the album). My favourite from the lot are Feels Like Heaven (of course), All Or Nothing and Ghost Of Love.
The only songs I've heard form the second album are No Time,All For You Time Is Right and they are my least favourite songs (of those I've heard) by Fiction Factory, and after reading your comment , I think I shouldn't waste my time downloading the album.
